Ive never played a Digimon game, so I'm starting with Next Order. Is this a good starting point, and if so what should I know about the game?

Not exactly. It's doable but you kind of need to like something akin to Tamagotchi for you to enjoy the experience, NO doesn't have as good of a world as World 1, and NO forces you to juggle two Digimon on top of that. Right now Cyber Sleuth or Time Strangers are far better introductions to the series even if Cyber Sleuth is focused more on the real world than the Digital World, and if you gotta try a World game as your starting game then emulate World 1 instead of NO.

Terriermons Tips!

1: Use the fucking farm
2: Upgrade the fucking farm
3: Swap out your party from time to time
4: Make sure to dedigivolve or you cant reach a mons highest form
5: You can get DLC mons from a slut but they will be overleveld and make the game feel piss easy early on
6: Non of the outfits you can buy are good and are just a simple shrit swap, use your money elsewhere
7: Remember to exchange your medals

Next Order was made as a sequel for Digimon World 1, the pet raising sim with city building elements for the PS1 that was buggy, hard and interesting.

Its more streamlined, less interesting and okay.

Not a bad starting point. Shit like Cyber Slut and Time Stranger are more like standard JRPGs.

The main meat of Digimon has always been the anime, particularly subbed Adventure and Tamers.

That said, you'll be fine if you accept you are playing a more unique genre

It was the last digimon raising sim game.

Just so you know it was made for the vita so don't expect anything amazing.

if you want a basic RPG you want Cyber Sleuth or Time Stanger

Not a bad write up. I'd call Digimon World 2 a mystery dungeon game with JRPG battles though.
Also, the world/story split happened at Digimon World DS in japan, I assume it happened later here due to branding.

I missed Lost Evolution because I forgot it existed until someone reminded me but it was too late and I'm too lazy.
>I'd call Digimon World 2 a mystery dungeon game with JRPG battles though.
Even so, it's still more Story-esque than anything.

>get the enhanced block command asap. it's essential. you can attack while blocking and vice-versa
>use autopilots and fast travel. they save time
>difficulty affects roaming encounter stats. the rest of the game is the same. and stat gains. I'd recommend normal or easy
>raise stats via battles. the gym is a crutch to kill time
>desync your mons' lifespans so your older mon will powertrain your hatchling
>if an enemy has a red trim around its name, it's highly likely to kick your ass. the higher the evo stage, the stronger an enemy
>max out the restaurant. you'll know why after you do it. and upgrade the dojo to lv 2
that should set you up

>Even so, it's still more Story-esque than anything.
Not really. 2 is the odd one out. I'd call 3 the proto-story game more then 2.
>>
>>729018821
I actually have one of these as well and it's fucking huge, WAY bigger than I was expecting when I ordered it. It's basically the same size as the RP5, only a different form factor obviously. I haven't used it very much besides messing around with setup and pokemon MMO, but it felt solid for those ~15 minutes I touched it, despite being fuckhuge.

>I'd call Digimon World 2 a mystery dungeon game
it's a dungeon crawler because it has battle transitions and you give orders to your entire party. if your digimon were straight up fighting on the field, it would quality as mystery dungeon.

>>
>>729019765
Eh. It feels more like an early mystery dungeon to me. You've got a hunger gauge, field abilities, item use, 8-directional movement, the fill in map. Compare playing it to Torneko or Shiren and they'll look extremely similar.
