Should I buy a Steamdeck before it costs $900 due to the RAM price increase? Is the OLED worth it or should I just get the LCD?
It's not worth ittoo weak to run anything new, no point spending $550 just to play indies and old games
>>729021803lol no. It's outdated in specs anyway.
>>729021803Nigga they're discontinuing the deck. It was a failed experiment. It shidded and flopped like every other piece of hardware Valve did. A better question why do you even want a shitdeck?
>>729021803was just considering the same/ with ssd prices starting to get hit, the price of the 1tb oled might start to seem like a steal.
>>729021803No, it's too old and weak. If you must have one try to find cheap used one or wait for clearance sale when they discontinue rest of the models
>>729021803I have owned both LCD and OLED models. The OLED is great but the strength of the LCD is that you can still find it relatively cheap on places like FB market. I've seen them as low as $200. And that's a great deal. Unless you want to play modern AAA, it's a great device, and even some modern games run well enough.I don't think the OLED is worth +200$ though, but it is a great device as well.
Don't buy it if you're expecting to play anything released within the past 6 or so years.
>>729023389It can play Hades 2 and Silksong just fine though.
>>729021803>Is the OLED worth itNo, pretty much never.
>>729021803You should wait until the next iteration of Steam Deck releases in 2028 like everyone else.
>>729021803>>729022867>>729023663To this day, no Steamdeckfag ever justified the price tag of it or why it's even necessary. It's way underpowered and limited in the amount of games you can properly run. If you're going to play old games or indie games, most cheap laptops would do that better and give you more for your money. Just get a new laptop if you want to throw away money. Laptops have way more controller options, bigger screens, offer infinitely more outside of gaming. And the Steam Deck isn't even "portable" in the sense that it doesn't fit in your pocket.
I like my 'eck. It may not run any new AAA games but I don't really play many new AAA games on my main gaymin pc either so it's not that big of a deal. I like being able sit in bed or on my couch with a little tablet controller, it's very comfy. It runs most games pre 2017 pretty well in my experience and that's around the time when games went from shit to diarrhea. Im playing through the mass effect trilogy right now and having a blast. I'd say it's very worth it if you have a big list of games on steam that you foolishly purchased thinking you'd play them but now they're collecting dust unplayed like I did. Not sure if I'd feel so positively about it if I didn't have such a large steam library of unplayed games. Also it runs gamecube, ps2, and psp emulators very well if that interests you.
