it's a workout for their framework for training robots.
in vidya getting training is incredibly easy - for robots not so much.
this is them trying to prove that their framework, when fed with enough data (40k isn't actually a lot tb h), can generalise across a range of tasks

two things (i think):
1. the model is trained on video capture (i think they're generating the controller data after the fact, or not at all) - right now, data for robots is actually being captured by humans wearing POV cameras on their heads doing tasks. in some cases, like tesla, it's human beings wearing vr headsets, controlling robots doing the tasks - there the video is also being recorded.
2. the model is interacting with software that makes the player character do things, in the same way that the model will interact with software that makes the robot do x or y

you know that google thing from a couple months ago, genie 3? the 'world model' - one of the use cases for those types of models is to then further train robotics models by simulating reality
