New windows changes is throttling PC hardware. Performance in games is down significantly because of the OS. Windows is increasingly adding more spyware to use the data toward their AI projects, of which is responsible for a majority of new windows code base resulting in it being glitchier and buggier than anything we've seen since shit like Vista or ME.
Swapping out of windows unironically boosts performance by something insane like 20% these days.

I don't know why Bazz's shite is so well regarded. I had less trouble with a few of the default applications on KDE plasma on something like cachyOS or just Fedora than this. I'd understand going full atomic if it was stable enough but I don't see why recommend something like this when eventually some Windows tourist is going to stumble upon something broken like the record desktop function in Spectacle and find out webm files come out empty.

I have 4 years before Windows 10 support gets dropped, by then Windows 11 will be usable once microsoft jeets get wrangled to work on windows 12 and stop fucking with 11. Plus further debloat by the community. That's why Windows 10 is usable now, and that's why win7 was usable by the end. Everyone seems to forget how fucked win7 was at the start or how bad the updates got by the end before the debloatening.

My guess is disabling DSC on a high refresh rate/resolution monitor.
Some higher end monitors (OLED and the like) support HDMI 2.1b but are stuck on DP 1.4.
This means that in order to use DP, DSC must be enabled. HDMI 2.1b doesn't get cucked as much with DSC disabled.
However from my testing on both nvidia and AMD on a 360hz OLED, nvidia is cucked no matter what, because even though it supports HDMI 2.1b unlike AMD, it's broken with high refresh rates + VRR. And on AMD, even though it doesn't support 2.1b, using Displayport 1.4 is enough to drive 1440p 360hz with both VRR enabled -and- a 10bit output (HDR). So at the end of the day that particularly does not matter.
I don't know however what the limit of DP 1.4 under display compression is. Maybe HDMI 2.1b can still achieve more with its higher bandwidth.

Ideally, if it was stable and everything worked fine with maybe the caveat being not having extremely up to date software and hardware support, sure.
Problem with Bazzite is eventually you'll have to do the troubleshooting you'll need elsewhere, which involves said fucking with system files, which will be more annoying in this particular case.
You're putting an extra layer of shit between you and the system to ensure that in the event things work right for you, you're in good hands. The problem is this weird fucking assumption some people have that "it just works" for everyone because "it just works" for them.
One of the reasons people go for Arch derivatives these days is that the wiki is extensive and full of relevant information and troubleshooting tips. So if you're going to come across an issue every now and then anyways, you might as well go through the path of least resistance.

It really comes from a place of profound retardation. Or there's an ulterior motive since in most cases these are kernel level tools.
This dumbfuckery isn't exclusive to gaming. Productivity software developers all over still hold this idea that linux is not worth the trouble. An example of this is RAW image processors, there's like 13 of these commercial fuckers out there still going with the old "maybe we'll take it in consideration at some point, but this would take many years, developing the application from zero, for like 2 customers". Some of these programs could run without issues through a compatibility layer if they put a little effort. Affinity V3, recently released for free, works pretty well on linux already if you have an nvidia GPU, and I'm sure as fuck they could figure out AMD OpenCL support if they put a few fucking hours into it.

Windows is becoming slower and consumer both more space and memory due to services. In addition, the brand new Co-Pilot, which is installed into new Windows11 users, is already passively eating 12GBs of RAM and 100GBs of your HDD while you cannot uninstall it due to being forcedly rooted into your Windows. Windows10 season support and its firewall shut down next year, while many cannot upgrade to Windows11 due to it only accepting systems with CPUs above 10th Gen Inteal or Zen2 AMD onwards.

Due to these issues, gamers are now installing Linux systems, mostly Mint, Ubuntu and mostly Bazzite also due to the rising popularity of the SteamOS from the Steam Deck and Legion Go, which such OS is basically Linux Bazzite with Steam + Steam Deck compatibility.

Wherever you go, most people don't give a fuck about the OS itself. They care about what they can run and use without issues most of the time. They'll run into issues and hate Windows, but whatever workarounds most people need are easy to use. If they want to use a program, with very few exceptions it's there to use. Download .exe, install, done. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
The level of tolerance some people have to losing access to certain software or having to spend extra time learning a different workflow varies a lot. Most people do not want to change that. If they have to do something today they're not going to have the time required to learn new nomenclature. Even if they're able to process their work faster because of increased performance or whatever, RAM not being hogged maybe, more CPU cycles, whatever, part of the speed comes from having already learned exactly what the fuck to do, so you're removing that. Cool now it takes longer.
Linux users themselves already experience trouble with this. GNOME for instance is very controversial because without extensions it's a whole different fucking ordeal. It takes an extra step to do certain things. Oh now this shit that you had a button for needs a keyboard shortcut because the developers thought it was distracting. Things like that. The way that some linux users treat GNOME is no different from the way some windows users treat linux as a whole.
Think about the fact that everytime a new Windows release comes out, people stay on the previous one, not just because of controversial additions, but because they suddenly change something or remove something. Now I can't make the icons smaller. Now I can't change the taskbar. These buttons are not in the same place. These things don't work the exact same. These are actually small changes. It's not the magnitude of change that linux requires from your average chap. And they already bitch and moan. So what do you actually expect?

Microsoft has legitimately not made a good decision about their operating system in 10 years, all the AI implementation and spyware have bogged the operating system down so hard that in many cases you actually get better performance running "Windows only" apps and games on Linux through a compatibility layer, all of the worst UX decisions they have made either can't be changed or turned off at all, and if you can it's often in registry editor and gets reset every time you do a system upgrade, they are attempting to force everyone off of Windows 10 even though 11's new "security" requirements prevent many people from upgrading without buying a new system or replacing their motherboards.

Over 90 percent of Windows games are playable on Linux, and the only ones that aren't don't run because the dev doesn't want to click a checkmark in the easy anti cheat settings, or they require direct access to your kernal, allegedly to prevent cheating. If you don't care about Call of Duty or League of Legends there isn't much of a reason to stay with Windows today.

I can see it becoming more relevant in the future as my hardware ages, but from what I've read I feel like sticking with win11 would be my best bet for now?
I do despise all of the bloat and telemetry bullshit that comes with it, but the ease of use, better performance and anti-cheat compatibility really does make me a bit more forgiving in that aspect, even though I am still turning off and removing everything extra that I can.

Changing your distribution isn't likely to do much of anything about whatever nonspecific "issues" you're having with Steam/Proton. By default, Steam for Linux runs both Proton and native games in Steam Linux Runtime, which is basically a container that provides its own libraries. Unless you force it, Steam isn't just using the packages provided by your Linux distribution anyway.
Most likely you're either playing games that aren't perfectly compatible out-of-the-box or you did something dumb like installing the Flatpak version of Steam.

Cachy does the "optimized-kernel" and repository packages by default. Whether these optimizations are snake oil or not is up to debate. Also Cachy includes a "install gaming packages" button which saves you several minutes or hours of researching and setting up proton repos and steam.

>Bazzite
Literally an MS honeypot.
MS-employed lead developer, immutable (aka absolute shit for desktop use), derivative of Fedora Kinoite, kicked out one of the few competent devs (the guy who made the handheld compatability stuff) for not carebearing someone crying over being told to fix their bugs.
Just install a non-meme distro like Arch or Fedora and nvidia/amd drivers and you're no longer dependent on an upstream distro waiting for ages for shit.
If you must use a meme distro at least use Endeavour (Arch but harder to fuck up), Mint (Ubuntu but less retarded) or CachyOS (muh gamer Arch) and not an immutable retard one.

Almost all these meme distros?
They're just customizations, often extremely minor, of an upstream distro repackaged to have a "project" on the devs CV. You gain practically nothing from most of them and add issues.
Anyone telling you to use immutable crap like Bazzite is trying to trick you into a bad experience to make you go back to Windows in disgust.
