>game has ludo-narrative dissonance
I fucking hate that shit
Silksong's coolest bosses: die in one or two tries
Silksong's random ugly shitters who don't matter but block your path: actually ask the player to engage with the gameplay and are tough as nails, require several attempts and max focus

The random shitters end up unironically being the better and more memorable boss fights by virtue of actually being videogames

HK1 was way better in terms of boss memorability, aesthetics etc. And theres really no silksong bosses with moveset and skill ceiling as great as pure vessel
on the other hand i really like silksongs' build variety and moment, i just wish that 3/4 the interesting build options i know of werent locked behind act 3

I think most games shouldn't have contact damage with enemies that don't have explicit means to hurt on contact, e.g. spikes

u know savage beastfly is optional, right
also the best bosses are karmaleta and first sinner, no way you beat those in 4 tries

I beat both of those in 3 tries. Savage Beastfly took me like 10 each time.

Yeah, Pure Vessel set such a high bar it's kinda tragic nothing in Silksong quite clears it. You feel like you're in a dance recital with a demigod, and every wrong move is a bullet to the soul. Silksong's bosses have flair, but a lot of them don't hit mechanically the same, feels like more style than substance sometimes. The combat system has more layers now, sure, but the game doesn’t trust you with the good toys until way late. Imagine how much more replayable it’d be if builds popped off earlier, instead of drip-feeding your arsenal until near endgame. Kinda feels like it kneecaps its own freedom.

Tbf bosses like NKG and PV were only introduced in DLCs after the Knight has access to the full moveset and arsenal. I'd assume TC will probably include bosses that utilise Hornet's full arsenal in the upcoming pantheon DLCs

Even though I think Silksong slightly has a better overall boss fight quality than HK, honestly I think both games kind of struggled with the boss rooster where a fair amount of the bosses are either boring or just suck.

Kek. Both karmelita and first sinner exemplify the problem OP described. Both took me 2 attempts during my first playthrough and that was with the barbed wire handicap. Meanwhile the bilewater boss had me stuck for hours

First sinner teleports too much that it kind of gets annoying
