the dreamcast is possibly the best aged console ever made

>Support for Sega's own fast/streamlined/documented SDK or Windows CE (to make porting games from the PC easier)
>Hitachi SH4 chips
>480p with the DC's PowerVR GPU
>Rarely-used volumetric per-pixel shadows and volumetric fog features
>Order Independent Transparency and is the only system to date that came with OIT at the hardware level
>16MB of RAM
>Native VGA out support
>independent filesharing between memory cards without the console needing to be present
>a large (again, for the time) optical disc format that stored up to 1GB of data
>Plans to download Dreamcast games directly to the 40GB HDD, a feature that Xbox 360 realized
>Had the highest quality video output of the generation, while PS2 was known for having the lowest quality and looking the blurriest overall
>Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Dead or Alive 2 were technically impressive
>Modern game controller is heavily inspired by Dreamcast controller
>>
Looks like somthing youd see in a hospital
>>

okay but the games suck
whats the point of an sdk and powerful hardware when they were making better games from scratch in assembly with a 68000 and 64kb of ram
>>
The image quality with VGA is mind boggling to me. How did it have that when the other consoles were blurry shit until og xbox came out? The sysyem doesnt feel all that dated at all when hooked up to a nice monitor. Can't wait to get a VMU Pro for mine
>>
Didnt Google just stop supporting Dreamcast browsing or something?
>>
>>729037669
It will always be a shame Sega fumbled the Saturn & CD, and pulled out after Dreamcast. Like Starwars, it ruined the balance in the vidya force.
>>
>>729038287
Yes they dropped google support for the DC's dedicated browser. Only took 25 years
>>
>>729038287
google killed support for old browsers en masse some time around september, even much newer and more featured browsers like the PS3 and new 3DS's are affected.
it wasn't a change or support offered specifically for the dreamcast, just a sweeping change that broke a lot.
shame as looking up stupid stuff on google image search was the most fun thing to do on old console web browsers.

I remember using my 3ds for browsing the web and watching youtube videos.
Good times

How? Didn't it only have a built in modem connection? That's way too slow to download anything.
>>
>>729037669
Can't lie the system had a really nice aesthetic going for it and all the net features were ahead of it's time. Too bad it was sega's last console, but at least they went out in a bang.
>>
>>729037669
The hardware was underpowered, it suffered from the stigma attached to the Saturn and everyone was waiting for the PS2.

Also outside of sonic adventure, the launch had some real turkeys. A really bad Sega Rally 2 port filled with fog and Pen Pen Triicelon turned people off the system.

You wouldn't believe the shit we put up with back in the day. People would leave their PC on for 2 days straight to install WoW and Final Fantasy 11. God forbid you got telephone calls during that because they'd kick you off the internet if you did, some people would have a second line just for their internet to avoid that, or they'd have their internet tied to a fax line.
>>
>>729039565
I'm more surprised at how anyone could download anything sizeable over dial-up since it usually had very strict data caps and exceeding them was expensive as hell.
>>
>>729039997
I don't remember having data caps early on for dial up here. I actually remember you were able to "pirate" dialup because all you needed was a modem and you could use a random persons log in info and get on for free. There used to be websites where people would post their accounts so people could share them.

Damn that's a cool spurdo. Got any more?

so the gakicube is a modern dreamcast?
>>
>>729037669
The controller sucks ass and is a direct downgrade from the Saturn 3D pad
>>
>>729039391
I feel like Sega was developing a broadband adapter but I might be confusing it with the Gamecube
>>
>>729037669
>Modern game controller is heavily inspired by Dreamcast controller
Well that's just not true. Every modern controller is built upon the design of the PS1 controller, which took after the SNES controller.

The original Xbox was vaguely Dreamcast-esque and it was all tthe worse for it. That's why from 360 onward Xbox stopped trying to be unique and just started making their controllers more closely resemble Sony's.

Based
I used to play the memory card games Kek
>>
>>729041542
Ah well in return here is a cleaned up (removed noise) and hatted version.

much appreciated anon

>other consoles were blurry shit
Almost all of them had RGB which is incredibly clear and sharp.
>>
>>729044776
*like, VGA is literally just analogue RGB. Exactly the same as RGB SCART you can get out of a master system or a snes or a megadrive or a ps1 or a saturn etc.
>>
>>729039443
>underpowered
It was absolutely fucking phenomenal for 1998.
>>
>>729037669
>Modern game controller is heavily inspired by Dreamcast controller

No second stick lmao. outdated at fucking launch.
>>
>>729044965
a lot of games didn't even use the 2nd stick back then, controls weren't standardized. a lot of xbox games in particular have it do fuck all and want you to re orientate the camera with the shoulder buttons still.
>>
>>729039443
>The hardware was underpowered
I'd say more impossible to program for. It was easy getting stuff running on but near impossible to get the maximum performance out of.
>>
Video games don't age.
Good games stay good, bad games stay bad.
You aging doesn't make the game different.
>>
>>729037669
It was a great console that unfortunately couldn't save Sega after the pathetic failure of the shit Saturn. Also, absolutely bodied and overshadowed by the PS2. Sure, it was impressive compared to psx and n64 in 1998, but this thing looked obsolete and primitive a mere 2 years later when the ps2 launched.
>>
>>729047168
what atari 2600 games have you played lately? which are your favorites?
>>
>>729047767
it didnt look primitive compared to the ps2 graphic wise
>>
>>729037669
That's a nice looking keyboard.
>>
>>729048001
I don't play Atari 2600 games because they're all shit.
>>
>>729048005
I think Dreamcast had the best graphics and PlayStation always had the worst graphics
