To us in 2025, this shit is insane, but to them it makes sense.They are a very inward looking people, who don't often travel, and they struggle to see things outside their little island. Sometimes this allows them to do things in an interesting way; Americans could never have made Eco, Silent Hill, or the Souls games. But most of the time it's quite annoying. Weebs (aka faggots) will endlessly defend whatever the Japanese do, while crying about wokeness or w/e.That's why I've always felt the Xbox was overall good for the vidya market. It introduced a design philosophy for the rest of the world, and was so successful that it was later adopted by the rest of the industry to become standard.

Why didn’t they put mainline Pokemon on it? That could have kept the console afloat a few years. BoTW could have saved it too if it had come a bit sooner.Just the fact that the Switch got a shit ton of Pokemon games including Pokemon Snap, while the Wii U got nothing outside of Pokemon shovelware makes me believe Nintendo had no clue what to do with the Wii U during that time.

I can see where they were coming from with. Coming out of the noughties, the living room experience was dying in favor of everyone having their own screen. This was them trying to have the home console version of that, without replacing their true handheld at the time, 3DS. But they didn't consider that mobile gaming would exolode around the same time and people would just play on their actual tablets
