Smash Ultimate has unironically maxed out the roster. Basically only 3rd parties and D-list Nintendo characters are left, and none of them will really get people excited like the Brawl/4/Ultimate base roster reveals did.

I would rework the roster to give every franchise represented an equal amount of characters, between two and three. I would also make certain no two characters are alike in play style. Mario would be cut down to Mario, Peach, and Bowser. Mother would replace Lucas with Duster and then add Lloyd.Etc.
