The stance should have been that The Legend of Zelda is just that, a legend, and unless a game is an obvious direct connection to a previous entry, they are just a "retelling" of that legend by a different people/culture at a different time. That allows things to change in each entry, sometimes drastically, but keeps the core basics there and gives them a reason, without resorting to fucking retarded, "Dur, where does this exist in the time line?!"

What we're hoping is the next Messianic figure to get us closer to ascension, whole, like the full Rapture ascending to the true Source, Paradise etc. The elites, the cabal, led by Ganon, who are the emmisary for the Demiurge, are looking to become God themselves, so they're also looking for a way to transcend beyond this plane, using the full Triforce. However they're not looking for whole ascension of humankind, they only want it for themselves. Instead they would Rapture the whole humankind and then trap our souls into a new, faux instance of reality, where our pool of consciousness works like battery for these faux new 'Source'. Then Ganon or the elite cabal would become the actual 'Source' or Gods in that 'machine'.

It's a slow, steady effort by each Messianic figures to advance the plan, taking small steps so the next Messianic figure could climb on the shoulders of giant of the past heroes.It's like the metronome experiment, a bunch of metronome randomly swinging but it reverberates into each other. Eventually they start to sync up in harmony. Like Matroyska doll, Ganon is working to trap us down deeper, while they rise higher. Link is looking to get us out of that infinite Matroyska's doll, one era / civilization / timeline / dimension at a time.
