How do you have good lore when you have to contort it and never actually follow through on any of it when it all has to exist in a GaaS?
Bionicles had good lore because the lore was part of the marketing, Halo (once) had it because the experience of a mysterious ring world and fighting scary dogmatic aliens as a super soldier needed some lore. Meanwhile, GaaS has no market incentive for good lore. There is incentive for lore but it just is there to string you along and lead you on with no intent for any pay off or thematic depth, just endless mystery boxes that only having meaning for that one seasonal event to get you to buy the 9 dollar gun skin.
