Why are Japanese devs pivoting to Nintendo Switch 2 now?

They barely supported the Wii and Wii U.

Playing Switch in the subway is sometimes the only way a Salaryman can game.

Because Nintendo has been generations behind the competition since the Wii. They still are with the Switch 2, but the gap between the 8th and 9th Generation isn't so big and a lot of games still try to release last-gen versions, so they can accommodate the Switch 2 now.

It also doesn't help that Japs have always been far worse at optimizing their games compared to the Western market, so any weaker hardware creates a ton of issues.
