Why does /v/ hate this game?
You see, the youngins' (zoomers(Those born after me)) like this thing called 'liminal spaces', and I just can't let people enjoy things.
>>729055118>released exclusively on the Epic Game Store>$20 for an hour long pretentious "puzzle" game>gets popular due to streamers and their ilk as some masterpieceIt's just a boring game with an okay premise. There really isn't much to love.Just like that photo game that came out this year.
>>729055463/v/ can't appreciate anything other than slashers and screamers. They're like the people who watch the latest shitty horror thrillers annually and think horror needs to make you scream and shit yourself to be effective, when things can just as well incite fear through isolation, foreboding, and a fear of the unknown.
>>729055118It has an okay gimmick for a puzzle game but spends more effort on veering noncommittally into horror for a bit and then trying to bring in Portal-style "Is this a test or a test pretending to be a test" ambiguity when all I really wanted to do was grab shit and have it do cool things with perspective. Somehow bloated and also too short. Not as bad as Lightmatter but still deep up its own ass.
But I love this game though? Specially the OST
>>729055118I thought it was pretty nice for a evening playthrough and I'm pretty old
Anyone else got some pretty serious motion-sickness while playing? I had to take breaks all the time. Has never happen to me from another game and not a nauseous either
really want another game like Viewfinder, which felt more like a semi-polished beta than an actual game
>>729056826What's wrong with Lightmatter? It thought it's better than Superliminal
I thought it was pretty neat
>>729058043Viewfinder had such a great gimmick ruined by stupid dialogue, stupid plot, and sub-par level design. The part where the simulation crashes and suddenly you're moving around a dome with the previous 3D space painted on it was extremely cool though.Speaking of, pic related is mandatory reading for this thread.
>>729058109Mostly that it's unrelentingly twee and basically alll of the puzzles have the Tower of Hanoi element of seeing the solution almost immediately but the process of moving all the pieces is still a hassle. It's also nowhere near good enough of a platformer to put up with some of its more esoteric horseshit.
>>729057174definitely a (You) problem. Might want to get checked out
>>729057174skill issue
>>729055463I hate that meme too, but this is just a puzzle game.
>>729055118I remember enjoying this game for like the first hour, and afterwards it's all a blank. Also holy shit what is this new cancer captcha
>>729064583Fucker, you beat me to it.
>>729057174Nah, happened to me too. I play games in first person all the time, couldn't understand anyone who complained about motion sickness, but this one did something weird. Manifold Garden too.
>>729055118>Walking simulator with Source Engine puzzles
>>729059895>unrelentingly tweetranslate into english pls
>>729065343the writing fucking sucks and makes you want to shove the narrator down a stairwell
I think out of all of these the one that I liked the most was Antichamber. I think it's the variety of weird shit you end up doing in it rather than repeating the same puzzle process.Superliminal was just fine, I liked it but I wasn't impressed.I didn't try Viewfinder, I saw a video of a very well known streamer getting really irritated by an annoying female voice in that game.I have manifold garden but I couldn't get into it.
>>7290551181 year epic exclusive
>>729055919>that photo gameViewfinder
>>729055118I enjoyed it but wished was waiting for the puzzles to get more challenging, which never happened. It felt like I was served an appetizer for a main course that never arrived.
>>729055118It's too neat.
>>729055919>>729069116>that photo game that came out this yea>ViewfinderThat was 2.5 years ago
>>729069290Some of the puzzles almost got difficult but I wonder if there actually was a way to make it more difficult. Felt like a weird tech demo, very limited in scope and not really much potential for creating mind bending puzzles. Maybe mirrors?
>>729055118>Instead of figuring out where his coworkers have gone, Stanley decided to lurk on an imageboard
>Despite not being instructed to do so, Stanley started to press some keys
>N
>I
>>729071303>G
>Stanley, I know you’re not about to spell out an offensive word. That’s beneath you!
>>729055118It was shit.I was excited for it when I first saw the concept for it in like 2014, and I got the game as soon as I heard it was released. But it's shit. Actually fucking boring. I stopped somewhere near the end.
>G
>Stanley, this is very inappropriate! Why don’t you look for your coworkers, instead?
>>729055118Because at one point I glitched outside of the map and I thought that was part of the puzzle, so I spent well over an hour trying to solve it after that and it turned out that it was a normal glitch.
>E
I don't know why others don't like it, but to me it felt sterile.A mix of echochrome and antichamber, what's not to like? And yet it fell flat. Too bad, I love perspective games.
>Stanley, do NOT finish that word! You need to listen to me and look for your coworkers!
>R
>Oh Stanley, I’m afraid you will get canned for this…
>>729071565>*gasp* Stanley! What have you written, Stanley? Think of the advertisers! The poor, virgin eyes of the executives browsing this thread right now.>You know, I've thought of something that can help you make it up to them, Stanley. A new mechanic! Just...stand in the circle and press the spacebar to kneel. Isn't this lovely, Stanley? I daresay I'm beaming with delight at this opportunity to genuflect over the past transgressions of our common ancestors!
>>729055118It's a fun game that I don't hate, but I regret its shortcomings. The ability to scale objects by grabbing anything and forcing perspective is cool, but the novelty wears off quickly and the potential is not fully explored. For example, there is a basic switch puzzle where you need to place any object to weigh down the switch to keep a door open, however the switch itself is considerably large. Intuitively, you would want to place a very large, heavy object atop it, but it turns out that forcing perspective to place a very small object that'd fit in your hand, also solves the puzzle. There's no weight or mass relative to the scale of the objects, and that's a real disappointment.>>729056826Yeah, the non-committal horror bit really bothered me, it didn't need to be in there and then it doesn't bother to deliver.>>729056906The soundtrack is definitely a strong point, with Darklight Escape being my favourite part where you're in an "escape" sequence as the game rapidly jump-cuts to new sections as you navigate a breaking-down simulation.https://youtu.be/1EULI2d84nw
>>729071704kek
>>729058225>he read the plotlmao all i know is some schizo wanted to find some flower and printed it out of VR somehow
>Look Stanley, you get your very own ʇǝʞɔnq!
