How's Noctis's game?
>>
>>729058738
The first half where it's just you and the bros on a road trip is fun but everything after sucks
>>
When you get into the train it's thematically cool and actually interesting but everything else went off the rail, pun fully intended.
>>
unfortunately an unfinished game
>>
>>729058738
I drop it after about 2 hours everytime I try to play it. 15 and 16 are the only 2 FF games I can't complete.
>>
>>729058738
Incredibly boring.
>>
>>729058738
It makes 13 look good.
>>
At least it's better than 16 I guess.
>>
>>729058738
it's comfykino
>>
>>729058738
An even bigger piece of shit now that FF7 Rebirth is a thing and 3-ups everything about it in every way.
>>
>>729058738
15th worst mainline Final Fantasy game.
>>
>>729058873
They cut a massive chunk of the game and story.

When you travel to the opposing empire there was suppose to be an entire massive story arc and buildup like the first chunk of the game, but with some modified intention and design changes. They scrapped it all even though it had working assets etc. Some idiots decided they would rather have it released then pushed back another 6 months to a year. And then sold the idea that if players really wanted mroe of it they could purchase in the form of DLC. This whole continent was suppose to also serve as a progression system and character building pathway leading to the encore of the game. It was all removed which effected the game, the story and the character development.

You got a game with nearly half of it CUT. which is why a cataclysm that happens just hits so wrong and has no impact. There was a massive buildup to it. Tons of story deleted. etc.
>>
>>729058738
Its a very low stakes game if you are in the mood for that. I clocked in 150 hours and most fo that was just fucking around in the world and just kind of taking everything in.
Also despite what this faggot says >>729059183 the game is inherently more fun to play cause even though both games are open world 15 actually lets you and your Chocobos can actually just fucking JUMP instead of bullshit fucking TERRAIN ACTION honestly I like Rebirth and the shit you can do but its world feels like ass to go through cause you cant just fucking jump on a simple fucking rock until the game gives you permission
>>
>>729059469
>an entire massive story arc and buildup like the first chunk of the game
The massive story arc and buildup that the first chunk of the game didn't have either?
>>
>>729059469
Yes They Rewrote large portions of the first chunk multiple times as a result of cutting out over half the game and story. What you got was probably slightly over 1/3 of what you were suppose to get. It was a ruined product all around.
>>
It's really empty and unfinished.
>>
>>729058738
It's shit but I liked it and even loved it at times. Forget the main story. Just go to the hunt board then go on open world adventures with your bros. That's the game.
>>
>>729059469
They made that huge city in the middle of the ocean with tons of detail just to slot 2 quests in there for a total of 10 minutes. Lmao, what a waste of resources.
>>
>>729058738
I thought about going back and doing the DLC stuff I never did. I am weirdly considering downloading it tonight. I might, depending on the file size.
>>
>>729058738
The first 75% of the game is fun. The last 25% of the game was clearly rushed with actual chapters of content clearly missing from the game.
>>
>>729060039
This is by all accounts what happened. The real problem with this game is mismanagement during production.
>>
>>729058738
The road trip with your bros theme was honestly cool.
Because the main cast is pretty small, you really do get to know the other characters very well.
World building is pretty good, you do get a good feel of the politics.

The gameplay is ok. Really simple combat system that you can devolve to one button if you want. You can do more things but chances are you'll have grinded to the point where you don't need to use the other options given to you unless you want to look more fancy.

The final act of the game is fucked. When you get to the point of no return, everything happens really fast. There's a time skip that makes no sense and too much happens in between that was likely scrapped in order to get the game out on time. The ending however is nice though.

Gladiolus was pretty boring(great theme though). Prompto's was okish, I'll admit I didn't take the time to learned much of the gameplay in that one. I just remember there were optional super bosses I ignored that were way above my level and level needed to beat the DLC. Ignis was alright. Ardyn was fucking nuts. Comrades fucking sucked especially with it all being all offline now. Only good thing I can say is that someone on the staff had the brains to fill out the gaps in the story for the final chapter of the main game using this 1 side special mission.
>>
>>729058738
Conceptually great, in practise? Grossly unfinished.
For some reason they decided that Final Fantasy XV wasn't just gonna be a game but a multimedia experience spanning the game, a movie, a series of DLCs and a novel, and without experiencing all of them it is fundamentally impossible to understand or enjoy the plot, which is made even worse by the fact that the DLCs weren't even finished.
As a result, the game fails to explain itself on its own, upon starting it it immediately vomits a long series of terms on you without any context that will just not be given in an attempt at getting you to consume the rest of the related media, important characters appear and disappear without any explanation throughout the story and events happen without any reasons given, Noctis' objectives change arbitrarily and the love interest is left so flat and devoid of personality or history that fans legit ship him more with either his male friends or a chick from a non-canon sidequest/crossover event.

Never forget what they took from you
>>
Are there any other games with a similar setting/aesthetic? The mix of fantasy with modern world/mid-century stuff? Not urban fantasy; I don't just want normal ass New York with wizards. I loved the idea of fighting fantasy monsters then having lunch in a Midwestern diner.
>>
>>729062681
You should play Forspoken. It's what FFXV should have been and is better in every way.
>>
I swear changing Cidney to Cindy was the Squeenix localizers testing out how much shit they can pull in the name of localization.
>>
>>729062889
>Drive through a tunnel with windows on the side
>Prompto in Japanese: "Wow, the view's beautiful!"
>Prompto in English: "Wow, it's like we're going through a portal to another dimension!"
I remember being annoyed by the localisation often but that's the only line I specifically remember.

The exploration is fun and clearing the dungeons is a lot of fun. As soon as you start the story and meet Ardyn the game falls off a cliff with the pacing and never once recovers while never once introducing any interesting characters or developing the characters they do have. All character development for Ardyn, the hot dragoon chick, Gladio, and Prompt are left for the DLC. Most of the finale is solely focused on Iggy and Noct, and even then there's a time skip that simply does not work at all unless you spent the past 100 hours roaming prior to starting the story to at least get attached to the main crew because Noct acts like he's 50 years older and wiser for no reason while meeting up with his buddies despite it being like one minute.

>>729062829
Forspoken is awful in every way and FFXV was monumentally better than it. Running around the map is like running around an unfinished procgenned Unreal Engine 5 template.
>>
>>729058738
i think it's the worst big company / big production game (idk if 'AAA' is correct? it feels budget and AA) I've ever played
>>
>>729063262
>it feels budget and AA
No, it's definitely AAA. Graphical quality, scope, visual effects, area designs, setpieces, enormous setpiece areas, etc. It's absolutely AAA. AA would be like Biomutant. Now that you can feel the lower budget start to kick in with the combat, visuals, effects, side quests, and jank.
>>
>>729062467
>Gen Z hate puns
How much faggier can you guys get.
>>
>man this first continent is fun as fuck to explore, there's so much stuff tucked away
>oh wow, there's still a whole continent across the ocean where the empire is, can't wait to explore that and also get to know Aranea
>it's a fucking corridor simulator
I've never felt so disappointed by a vidya like that, then again I haven't played any new sequel/remake games like Dragon's Dogma 2.
>>
>>729058738
It's fucking KINO. It's an allegory to christianity and it's so fucking kino you just have to try it.

A lot of people hate it because they expected this game to blow over final fantasy VII 4 times over and production was so bad they scrapped half of the intended game. It's still a great story if you take it for what it is.
>>
>>729063984
>It's still a great story if you take it for what it is.
and watch the prequel anime
and watch the movie
and play the DLCs at the respective times
and ignore how the last DLCs got cancelled
and ignore how rushed the last third of the game is
and ignore what a massive fucking disjointed unfinished mess it is in general
>>
>>729059469
>>729060039
>>729060101
why have Japanese devs been doing this for 30+ years? every other jrpg has had this happen to it. Secret of Mana, FF8, Xenogears, all the Xenosaga games, Saga Frontier..... and on and on and on
>>
I really liked it because it was you and the bros on a quest to defeat Evil. No gross women or anything.
>>
>>729058738
I like it more than XVI or XIII, still wouldn't recommend it though.
>>
>>729065235
To be fair on this particular instance, game had already been in development for 7 years and had gone basically nowhere. It was a last ditch effort to get a game out there. I guess the alternative would be to cancel it, but SE had some of its worst years they ever had back then financially.
>>
>>729065235
None of those games were nowhere near as bad as FFXV.
>>
>>729065235
FFXV was on a whole other level.
>The entire intro of the game makes zero sense without any context provided by Kingsglaive and having played A King's Tale at the bare minimum, otherwise it's just Noct and his buddies wandering the world.
>Luna doesn't even have any character development whatsoever and this was apparently supposed to be covered in the DLC they cancelled.
>Major aspects from the train trip onward needed to not only be patched in post launch for it to make any sense, but then they also had to add in the Gladio and Prompt DLCs just for it to flow at all and explain what happened while Noct was on his own.
>An enormous part of Iggy's character development is only seen in his standalone DLC.
>Ardyn, the main villain of the entire game, is only explained in his DLC that came out right after Royal launched years later.
As a story FFXV is a complete mess to follow.
>>
Every FF is hated when it gets released, give it few more years and people will look back positively on the game.

>>
>>729069730
All these games come out way too fucking slow. You're not going to match a decade of anticipation with any game.
>>
>>729069730
That's only true because the next game comes out and is somehow worse than the last.
>>
>>729058738
Its one of the few games I've played that started great and got worse as it went on. The open world in the first half of the game was legit fun to play. Half way through, there is this horribily designed boss fight with a water monster. After that, the game stops being open world and you're railroaded through linear corridors. I cant spoil anything because I couldnt even tell you what happened at the end. The main protagonist and some guy with the same powers as him just teleport all over the place.
>>
I like FF16 just because it had a gay character.
>>
Has issues but it's fun. Easily my favorite after Sakaguchi-era games.

Road trip stuff is incredibly comfy and should've remained the main focus of the game. Like all modern FF games the worldbuilding is off and NPCs are boring.
>>
Conan was right about everything even 9 years later
>>
>>729069545
>>The entire intro of the game makes zero sense without any context provided by Kingsglaive and having played A King's Tale at the bare minimum
Multimedia franchise-ism is the gayest idea anybody ever had.
>>
>>729059469
They were clearly over time and budget if that was the state of things. Without a limit on either of those, you're gonna end up with endless feature creep a la Scam Citizen.
>>
>>729070547
it was just a cop out so they could actually "finish" the game.
