I don't think there is a game that offers more player freedom with as many choices that have long-lasting (game long) consequences as bg3 does. It's got unparalleled freedom for a computer tabletop-like game.

Fully-voiced dialogue with cutscenes is also nice and something I didn't know I wanted until now.

Combat is great but it is the 5e ruleset, even if heavily modified.

Only things I dislike are the romance (=sex, there is no romance, just banging) elements and that some characters look like parody tumblr shit.

The problems are the combat system, modern D&D writing tropes from YouTube, main quest design taken from Witcher 3 and Original Sin 2, lack of strong narrative.

Basically, BG3 doesn't know how to construct a story, but it does know how to construct side quest dialogue and try to wrap that up into a main story, which doesn't work.

easily worst part of the entire game by far, constantly contradicted by the normal flow of the gameplay. act 3 borderline 4th wall breaks in how openly it tells you to ignore the main plot even though narratively ignoring it is suicidally retarded. it also makes RPing a whole bunch of characters impossible, because you're constrained by the tadpole in your head. the excuses they come up with to make you NOT completely and utterly 100% fucked by the tadpole are all retarded.

I love Baldur's Gate 3, but it has two major complaints from

I guess the other thing I always find with Larian games is that their games are always rife with esoteric knowledge checks in terms of mechanics that can make or break the difficulty of a run. Like for example, the Minor Illusion spell. It doesn't tell someone new to the game this thing has a retard-level range and will force even NPCs well out of its LOS to come gawk at it. Stuff like this means people completely gloss over a lot of skills and items that sound mediocre/niche but are actually a complete game changer.

Also, Dark Urge is best origin.

The perk of Dark Urge is you get to play a chronic murderhobo who desires to be good, and he has a fuckton of content added on top of the standard custom character. His specific narrative moments where he's wrestling control can have him either self-flagellate himself, or take glee in what's going on. He also has a small but decent chunk of dual tag dialogue if you make him a Paladin instead of the default Sorcerer.

If you like making custom Tavs, you're just getting way more content making them Durge. The combination of amnesia, and the uncontrollable bloodlust allowing you to justify any character within his circumstances, makes him IMO the best origin in the game.

The thing is though, despite him probably not being to your taste, he's by far and away the funniest character in the game. If you play as an assholish character, even just one that does good but constantly makes snarky remarks, joke at the expense of others, and expects payment for everything, he's basically your back-up bitch in the crowd hollering you on. For me, he's like a good 30% of the narrative entertainment in the game.
