I heard that this series is dangerously autistic, but I played the demo of pic related on a whim and it seemed fun. I liked the combat and the chsracter and the world. Can I just start playing here or should I play the other Trails games first?How do I best approch this?

It just lacks the thoughtfulness of the earlier games, at best, and at worst makes you question the writers' sanity. A lot of the worst stuff is towards the end though and it's not as bad as the following games
