It's really bizarre how Lace is basically written as if she were Hornet's stranged sister (her whole character in essence is this jealous daughter in desperate need of her mother's attention) to the point of acting as the game’s own analogue to the Hollow Knight and have Hornet compare her predicament to that of what happened to her siblings, when in actuality, Hornet has no sentimental ties to her nor a reason to. It's optional, but one can even kill Lace's sister relatively early on in Silksong and she's not acknowledged ever again despite her situation being the same as Lace's, arguably a hundred times more concerning. It's made even worse by the fact THK is supposedly still alive/existing separate from the rest of the Void by this point, so Lace's role as thematic surrogate continues to fall flat; when Hornet mentions taking her back from the dark, she speaks as if her one remaining brother was completely gone from the picture or something.

She'll fight you and taunt you with her ojou-sama cackle in Act 1, but she has no motive here than to just be a cunt or slow down Hornet's ascent. It's never explicitly stated that she freed Hornet, and the game never goes with that angle, even if Hornet confronting Lace about it would've given the latter some much-needed depth. Lace's early Act 2 appearance is more taunting with a GMS foreshadow, but she's still nothing but a mild nuisance. She's GMS's lackey just as much as Widow is. After beating Lace in Act 2, the game tries to speedrun her character development, but it feels forced and tacked on this far in. The game desperately attempts to redeem her with her sacrifice in Act 3, but I just can't feel anything for her.
