I recently bought the Slifer and Obelisk booster packs. I'll buy a few others from OG YuGiOh and keep them safe until my kids grow up a bit more, so we can play it together.
I never got into anything newer than GX, so I have no idea and don't care about pendulum summoning or XYZ whatnot.

They've always been unplayable. Right now Ra OTK is the only one you could feasibly build a (bad) deck around.
Obelisk does literally nothing and Slifer's sole gimmick is that he has a trap that says "draw 6 cards lmao". Which made for a funny Lab variant for a few games but gets old quick.

Obelisk GY slop OTK is a lot better than Ra OTK because obelisk got a couple decent spell/traps. It's still an awful gimmick deck.

>first legal print of the God Cards
Nobody gives a shit about that. The allure of the god cards was specifically BECAUSE they were so broken that they were banned from play. The fact that they had to make “legal” versions at all to appease zoomers just further reinforces why the game took such a massive dive in quality and fun.
>>
>>729075198
They are certainly cool as fucks and we all wished having all of them as kids when we watched the anime. But playing them is another, having the three of them inside your deck is pointless and even with one of them they are hard as hell to summon even if you have built a specific deck to summoning them.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a game where you can be fucked quick if your hand is shit.

Pendulums were unplayable dogshit when they were introduced to Yugioh though. You could play the game and pretend they didn't exist for massive portions of their "era"
It's not like you could ignore Pokemon going 3D if you wanted to keep playing it
>>
>>729083209
In-universe Ra is honestly still a kind of shitty card.
Still need 3 tributes to normal summon it and Ra needs them to have decent attack power so itself is not weak, Phoenix Mode requiring a 1000 LP payment to destroy 1 monster is really weak, and transferring LP to its ATK in a 4000 LP game only works if you're still completely healthy and ahead (and again Ra goes back to the graveyard after you did that).
Obelisk and Slifer were just better regardless of how the characters claimed Ra was superior to them.

>1 because new thing bad

>4 the pendulum decks are all complete shit and when decks in yugioh are shit they tend towards cancerous blowout playstyles because it's the only way to cheese a win, which gives the impression that's the core pendulum gameplay (they tend to forget/pretend to forget that shit tons of nonpend decks have the exact same gameplan)
>>
>>729087332
Links got even more hate, but they're not as insular as Pendulum so they don't feel like a weird wasted mechanic that was just shoved in without thought.
>>
I think Link would be tolerable if Konami stop jacking off Cyberse.

>>
>>729086862
Ra was good in the manga because the author could just add new effects to Ra to give it whatever it needed to be a massive threat in the current gamestate.
>When Odion Summoned the counterfeit copy, he revealed that this monster took on the ATK/DEF of the monsters that were Tributed to Tribute Summon it.
>Each turn this monster was Summoned against Yami Yugi, it revealed a different effect/part of a previous effect. The first time, it revealed that this monster's Phoenix Mode was immune to destruction, and its destruction effect can destroy another God card. The second time, Yami Marik revealed that he could Tribute monsters to increase this monster's ATK/DEF by those of the Tributes monster's. The third time, in the manga only, it was revealed that even in Battle Mode, this monster was immune to the attacks and effects of Gods that were lower in rank
>>

I have Destructive Daruma/Virus (I wish it wasn't as dodgable in this meta)/Trap Trick/Dominus Impulse/Dimension Barrier (oh can't wait for this to get banned) but I don't really feel that "in control" most of the times as last meta where I could virus + hand rip loop scot free at times.
>>
>>729085914
some look ok, others not so much. I don't think there're any that makes me want to open my wallet for
overall I think it's a fine idea, let collectorfags whale on sealed product chasing their shinies to release cheap singles into the secondary market. what's most important is that whenever they print a new card on Overframe, they have to always print lower rarities for it as well, otherwise it'll be cocksuckingly awful for players
the OCG already confirmed the next core boosters will include Overframes too, so it'll be the norm from now on

Just initially complicated and a lot of reading, the poison to card game players.
They are the only monstercard type with inherent mechanics not explained on the card (until links)
The duelfield was made ugly until mr4

They were the scapegoat of yugiboomer "You just summoned a bunch of dudes at once????" Rhetoric, forgetting about frogs, burning abyss and shadolls all done this shit before.
The only pend decks that were good (mythical beast, endymion) were extremely autistic combo heavy decks, which everyone was more or less doing, but it gave a bad stigma.
Their mechanic of soulcharging every one of their own turns that had their two spellcards up would blowout casuals who didnt bring enough spell removal.

Theyve been trying to make simpler control pend archetypes over the years and while their gimmicks are very unique and themeatic (hungryburger deck that tributes opponents monsters upon being targeted, shoulder AngelDevil deck where you constantly choose between a mean effect and a nice effect, miniature wargame deck where you march your monsters across zones to trigger effects)
They arnt good and the only ones that are rely on cancerous copium like Stun or fullnegatecombo

Every deck that focuses on pendulum summoning as its main thing(AKA a Pend Deck)
>is an insufferable combo deck
>takes even longer than typical combo decks because it has to jump through extra hoops of removing scales from the field to free up their zone and put them in the ED to summon them from
>spent years going through the same shit with Electrumite add Astrograph, beyond/exceed the pendulum, summon Apollousa, etc
>has the most annoying playerbase who only ever talk about how their deck is the best and also everyone is out to get them and actually people who dislike it are wrong
Konami's done a much better job in the last couple years of using pendulum cards in interesting ways, but nobody's talking about Ritual Archfiends or Enneacraft when they talk about their Pend Deck. Also early pendulum mechanics are largely why links were created.

thats just a problem of unrestricted game design where the cards aren't locked into their specific archetype
D/D/D and abyss actors is what every pend deck should strive to be

Or just activate the spell that places up to two scales from their deck/ED to the field and has a GY effect to fuck their opponent's mom if they try to stop you from pendulum summoning. Then use the other card that's just as good at extending.
Konami can make any mechanic good if they choose to.

The victim complex is entirely a TCG thing, and is pretty justified when the TCG still has Electrumite on the banlist for the explicitly given reason of "Jerome personally doesn't like it"

OCG doesn't do shit like this. They've dropped some good Pendulum support lately. DDD's cards were crazy, Melodious/SHS got CaC scales, and they're trying to experiment with the mechanic in a bunch of new archetypes. It's really only Yuya.dek that gets shafted and that's only really because it's a clusterfuck of 4 different unrelated archetypes that somehow need to work together but also be distinct.
>>
>>729085914
A few look great. Most look OK. I really don't like that they move away from the traditional card appearance. I'm willing to accept it if it takes pressure off of Konami to release tier 0.5 decks every year in order to have something that actually sells.
>>
>>729089320
They don't really need the protection in the show
The cards are practically indestructible
Salt water doesn't damage them and the only card to ever be damaged was torn in half
Strong enough to stop a gun from firing too

Links are what people pretend Pendulums are hated for.
>Gives you free resouces

>Every fucking Link 1 and Link 2 in the game

But STILL the only thing that ruins yugioh is that after you use your 1-2 handtraps that do fuck all because all meta decks should be able to play through handtraps (otherwise they are below rogue tier) you have to watch some retard combo for 20 minutes and establish a board and end with 6 card in hand anyway....

It's shit game design past the Link era where every decks is like

- 10 side engine
- 10 handtrap floodgater shit
Every deck does the same shit.
There is SO fucking little game plan variety in yugioh, it's a fucking joke.
Every archetype has a rota, a shitty boss monster, the same game plan.

There are multiple problems with the game. Nothing you've said is unique. It's all been discussed to death. It's possible to have problems with power creep, game design, etc. and ALSO dislike what Pendulum decks have been for most of their existence. And that's what the subject was.

I'll be honest with you, I don't remember because I haven't played Math Lab in months. I pretty much memorized the ranges of how many cards were needed based on the level of the monster, for example for Lv8 I recall I needed from 9 to 12 cards in total and from there I would dump the cards needed to complete the equation, or for the lowest Lv I could activate SEX which was 4, the only possible combination was two Rank 3s and one Lv1 Fusion with 7 cards in total. For example, with 11 cards in total against a Lv8, I would dump two RANK 3s and one Lv5 Fusion.

You pretty much have to make a small notepad of how many cards you need per level and memorize it, but once you have the concept, it's pretty easy to follow. On the other hand, I would advise against Math Lab at the moment considering M∀LICE is still a thing, Sky Strikers are virtually immune to it, Dracotail is hard to target with how easy they can dump their hand to the GY to mess with the formula and Yummy is coming soon.

But it has, the special stat in gen 1 was used for both special attack and defense, so blissey was a literal monster. They split the stat into two starting from gen 2, introduced abilites in gen 3, and then in gen 4 they made the physical/special split when it comes to moves, so entire types aren't considered special or physical (ie fire is special, rock is physical), each move has its own quirks. I checked out after gen 5, but that gen didn't really bring a lot of changes, just the dream world abilities iirc, it's been a while since i last played anything pokemon.

Anon, I fucking hate links and all of that but the niggers complaining about Pendulum don't do so from a rational standpoint. They don't because the cards seem too alien. Yes, links fucked the game beyond repair, but most if not all decks run links, so you will have inevitably used them by now and gotten to like them because they help your deck, etc.
If something like that had happened with Pendulums (which was funnily enough what they were planned for) people would like them: Imagine every deck has 2-3 pendulums, the pendulum effects help the deck, you could even pendulum summon multiple cards on occasion.
If links had gotten the pendulum treatment, they'd be hated: Only very few decks can run them, most player do not and won't encounter one in the wild. When they do, they seemingly plus and infinitum. You can't mix them with other decks so they have to stand by themselves and they've caused multiple ftks.

>>>>>>>the problem with links is cyberse link climbing
No, that's just one of many issues with links. The actual issue with links is that they're overly powerful ED monsters without the restrictions that keep the other summoning methods balanced, and now any deck that produces a lot of bodies, or needs cards in the GY, has free access to some of the strongest fuckers ever printed at any point in their combo. Fiendsmith isn't broken because of their negates or Tract, it's broken because you just need 2 effect monsters to turn into a whole web of recurring interruption, which is exactly why Moon of Closed Heaven was banned in TCG months ago and just got banned in OCG.
If links had meaningful restrictions that weren't "just be an effect monster" they wouldn't be so constantly overpowered.

Nope. Even if you highball their effects and just make them unaffected by everything, and even make them easy to hit the board, not really:

Slifer might see meme play in floodgate decks depending how easy it is to bring out Obelisk's effect is worse than Raigeki given the cost of bringing it out. Ra's effect is cool but Accesscode and Borrelsword dragon exist and people don't even play them anymore, its just another gimmicky OTK.
And if they are unaffected by everything, people will just out them with Underworld Godess, Daruma Karma Canon or just punch over them.
