>"When smartphones came out, everyone slated them," Kojima explains. "But now there are so many people who can't live without their smartphones. AI is like that. It's important to use technology in a way that will make us happy... I think there isn't any point in saying 'We shouldn't use AI' or 'AI is useless.' We can't go back. Smartphones were the same."

>"There's a possibility that the spread of AI will greatly change how we communicate," Kojima says. "There are people who aren't good at speaking face-to-face, and with AI compensating for this, maybe they could grow close with others… It would undoubtedly be convenient."

>While Kojima thinks the technology could be useful, he still worries about the effect it will have on human communication and believes that people should set themselves limits on its use. "I get the feeling humans would become spoiled," he says. "So, we'd need to do things like reduce the AI's involvement, or have days where we don't use it."

Sorry but smartphone usefulness is the same as AI. We communicated just fine before smartphones. In fact you can still do the same without a smartphone. What do smartphones bring to the table? Gacha games and making everything into retarded apps? No different from saying all AI brings to the table is erp/porn image creation and poor implementation into already existing workflows.

You can't have it both ways, either they're both useless shit or they're both useful shit, you can only pick one because they're the same.

I think he's right but at the same time I don't really use a smartphone other than as my alarm clock and I also don't really use AI, and I don't feel excluded from the modern world or anything.
I feel like AI's place in our world is both pervasive and overstated. It'll never go away, but it'll never reach the dystopian levels twitter retards already pretend we're in.

I don't have any social media. At all. I am 40 years old. People think I'm weird because of it, and even weirder when they find out I've had a home computer with Internet access since 1993. I just have never felt the need to put my life on the internet like a fag. I unironically believe that AI will indeed be some dystopian shit storm only because the surveillance aspect is the only thing that seems to work well at the moment, and They® will continue to lean into that. Especially if LLM doesn't produce AGI (which I don't believe it will).

This.
>allowed you to access the Internet anywhere
Meaning you can look up the answer to anything, anywhere: the definition of a word, the news, the weather, how long specific foods are shelf stable for, that actor whose name you can't remember, the Pope's stance on social issues, a review for a book. Anything you could do on the Internet, you could do anywhere. I think it's easily the second biggest shift in how we access and process information since the Internet itself.
>condensed multiple bespoke devices into one convenient devices
Cameras, palm pilots, and GPS navigators are the three biggest examples off the top of my head. And the phone itself, of course. Anyone being able to take pictures or video anywhere (and then upload them directly to the Internet) was another massive informational shift. GPS navigation is also just supremely useful, I wouldn't want to go back to driving with physical roadmaps or a fucking Garmin.

Just these two things alone changed the world we live in significantly. I don't think smartphones have had a positive effect on people, but they're undeniably useful. I've yet to see a single good or truly new application of AI that isn't profane in some way.

It really is baffling just how much people rely on social media. My sister in law and my little brother are fucking obsessed with it. Every day they post something on instagram, whether it’s a picture of their pet or whatever fast food they ordered or whatever fit they throw on for the day. They MUST let the whole world know, they MUST have the moment recorded forever on some server in Silicon Valley. God forbid you just go a day without posting about it on social media. I of course hardly notice it because I don’t use social media myself, but every once in a while I’ll catch them taking pictures of the most mundane shit and uploading it to instagram. I’m not saying I’m cool for not using social media, I consider 4chan itself to be social media and I of course use 4chan. But the difference is we’re not out here posting mundane shit for likes and retweets. (You)s are hardly the same thing

No it turned them into retards as took their attention away from activities such read or even playing games to posting on social media, it excelled woke social media movements that would have never taken of before and it allowed normies with no technological knowledge to infest the Internet and ruin it. It’s partially because of Smartphones that Geocities was deleted, that modding sites were taken down, that forums lost their traffic, that annotations were deleted off YouTube and all of Nerdom got taken over by normies, political activists and social media influencers. Social Meida and Smartphones are the twin cancers that killed the Internet and AI is going to be the third.

Death Stranding is probably my favorite game ever, but I still wouldn’t call myself a Kojima drone. I only ever played MGSV and, frankly, aside from Snake Eater, all the Metal Gear games look kinda shit. I don’t like the way Kojima presented OD with that one poster. It shows those three actors’ names - Sophia Killis, Udo Kier, and Hunter Schafer. I have zero fucking clue who these people are. I have never seen anything they’ve starred in, and if I have and I just didn’t realize it then they were just too fucking unremarkable and I just never bothered remembering their names. And yet Kojima puts their names front and center like I’m immediately supposed to recognize them and be wowed. You know why I don’t know these people? Because I don’t watch movies. I’m not a movie person. I can only name like ten actors off the top of my head, and most of them died decades ago. I obviously know who Norman Reedus is because every zoomer hit me over the head with how much they loved Walking Dead and how much they wanted to suck Daryl Dixon’s dick. But I have zero idea who these other three actors in OD are. Their names mean nothing to me. I don’t understand why Kojima, a videogame developer, thought I, a videogame player, would care about these three people

not even just driving but so often you are walking to a place and just don't remember the exact details, or the exact street route, being able to look it up (or literally get a gps to take you there) is incredibly useful.
even makes public transport far better, being able to look up exactly when things are coming, the routes to take, and chaining them all together for you. it doesn't come up as much as an adult, only really when I am on holiday somewhere, but I still remember being a kid looking at train routes for how to get to places and bus routes and figuring out when I needed to leave, how train, bus, how long it would take me to walk, what if I missed it, and a whole host of others things to get to places or to go to certain events with friends. a smartphone would have trivialized those things and not only made them easy but if I made any mistakes or the information given to me from them was wrong, I have more information to figure it all out on my own at any time and place.

There will always be AI models being developed and ran on local machines, but we absolutely can put the genie back in the bottle with the retarded massive data centers running AI. We absolutely can regulate AI's usage and scale.
>>
Don't you get it? You must be pro-Al or else you'll be aligned with LE TRANNIES! You can't be anti-Al if you want to be on the correct side! I am posting evidence and totally not propaganda!

This is so hilariously wrong.

If LLMs don't produce AGI then the next thing will. Personally, I still believe AGI exists right now, in some infant form that's being kept hidden from the public

Portal doesn't deserve to be alongside the rest of this list. The cringy cake meme popularity it got was annoying but the game is great.

Kojima predicted that humans would produce so much digital garbage, we'd need machines to sift through it for the good stuff.

It's pretty simple. If you have the same stance as trannies, then you are on the same side. At least on the topic of AI.

AGI doesn't exist yet. The current paradigm of AI is very powerful though, but it's insanely inefficient to train models and you need a lot of data so in some cases you literally cannot train a model to do something well.

Some big reasons they're building tons of data centers is to have more compute to train more models faster. Companies like Nvidia want this not only to make money selling the hardware but so that they can generate more data to train bigger and better models, most notably for robotics(there's a lot of money there).

Not really. All curren AI is good for is sorting(as long as it does not hallucinate), creating deepfakes for scammers, spambots, AI slop generation.
>>
>>729084547
Not really, it's just shoved into everything online.
>>

This. They force it. I fucking hate the google AI and had to waste time searching how to make it go away. I hate AI assistants. But jeetcorporations like Google and Microsoft want to force this slop everywhere.

>Personally, I still believe AGI exists right now, in some infant form that's being kept hidden from the public
That's the premise of a scenario I read once.
>small team develops baby agi in secret
>train it in a box and start letting it take remote jobs for amazon and make money
>eventually become media giant by creating fake content creators and ai genned media
>begin making and taking over companies to influence politics
>eventually takes over society without anyone noticing
>small group of oligarchs make secret one world government for the good of humanity
And the author thought that was the good end

because it's the only way for ai to make money. I can't believe the biggest spokesmen for ai are notable for having careers of hyping tech to take investor money and then failing to deliver and everybody seems to think this time is different.
>>
>>729088437
Better hope it's different this time. When the AI bubble pops we're fucked.

AI has geen pretty good for work related things which cuts down the time needed to deliver results.

AI is literally this but ten times better and with the ability for synthesis on top of it. It's so weird how you can consider specialized applications like gps revolutionary, which it is but not see how generalized all encompassing information retrieval and more importantly parsing and organization isn't easily an increase in accessibility of information revolution that rivals the printing press and internet. It's a far deeper step than either.

Printing press replaced the scribe
Internet replaced the mailman
AI replaced the expert and consultants

By the way I would hope no one is dumb enough to bring up or use as a rebuttal relative non-issues like hallucinations in ai while in the same breath praising gps which was (and still is actually) noteworthy for directing people off the side of a cliff or down the opposite way on one way streets or directing them to travel in circles in the dead of night.

And GPS isn't even an internet function in the first place nor an smartphone function, I guess we reached the era where kids, adults even, don't know GPS existed offline long before and that it's a system that doesnt require the internet or smartphones. Neither of those things are what enables the existence of GPS, and of they were to both to have never existed or to disappear you could still have your GPS if you so wanted.

Smartphones are useful still. The problem tho, just like any piece of computer technology being produced nowadays, is that they bloat all of it beyond oblivion with useless crap that nobody actually uses. Back in the day, it was practical utility and aesthetics first.
