How do I get started with the Atelier series? Is it even worth starting at all? I saw a figurine of this bitch Ryza and she has some fat fucking thighs.
>>
Go ahead and get your first few months of HRT going first.
>>
Start with the Arland trilogy (Rorona, Torori, Meruru) if you're actually curious about Atelier. Ryza is a set of generic RPGs that pin the Atelier name on a fat-thighed suit.
>>
The first Sophie is a good place to start, after that you can play the sequel Sophie 2 and other games in the series if you like it.
>>
Atelier games are kusoge.
>>
>>729081813
The ones without time limits are. Optmizing the alchemy within structural limitations IS the video game part.
>>
>>729081813
Nah.
>>
>>729079463
They are incredible mid games seemingly made for 8 to 12 year old girls but thick characters for dad to goon over.

Its not good at all and Ryza proofed you can get sales by selling your garbage to virgins. Maybe pirate and find out I'm right, but I wouldnt recommend buying it if you are over the age of 12

Atelier Iris and mana khemia are fun games as well.

It's like a bunch of sub-series under the "Atelier" umbrella (see pic-related).

Pick one of the games in the start of an arc, later games in the arc have callbacks or recurring characters from earlier. It's not just characters since the systems get refined/upgraded over the games (sometimes downgraded, then upgraded again).
Recent years starting having more of the same MC as the protagonist of multiple games (aka Ryza and Sophie), but that used to be rare.

All Gust games are kusoge but they’re comfy kusoge. They’re komfige

>time limits
Welp, thanks for saving me a bunch of $$$.
Fuck that shit.
>>
>>729082509
Min maxing every item for the hell of it IS also the video game part, something you can't really do with a time limit. When you're able to make 999 quality seeds of every type in Ryza you can say you now fully grasp and beat the system.
>>
>>729086295
I like games that give me a reason to engage with their systems

you don't
don't be a bitch

That's what the difficulty options are for.

barrel!
>>
>>729086742
I can take as much time as I want alchemizing broken items. Not as interesting as being pressured by the game to optimize the alchemy with a time limit

ayesha was my first foray into atelier
i recommend researching each trilogy, the usually come as a three-part package, and choosing based on what art and characters speak to you.
Dusk in particular is great because, while ayesha starts off with the time limit system from older games, it is the turning point of the series in to modern atelier. In that respect, i think it's a fantastic place for someone to jump into these games.
Speaking as someone who was new to atelier and choosing the dusk trilogy solely for the reasons above.

nah ryza proved that you could have even a niche series see mainstream success if you tick the right boxes. totori was better virgin bait anyway.
>>
>>729091903
Seconding this. Dusk is a very good trilogy to start with if you have no idea what you want or what to expect, and whichever one you like the most makes it easier to go from there.
>>
>>729086249
Some do some don't Ryza games I believe are on the don't side.

Yes, the Ryza DX trilogy is worth it and a great starting point.
>>
>>729084450
Atelier is an otaku series. You go from saving your little shop to dropping autistically crafted literal nukes on eldritch abominations while panty peeping the frilly little girl. It's hard to tell if Ryza's the first one you've ever heard of though.
>>
Start at the beginning. Atelier Marie rocks

Atelier Marie is cute but very simple mechanically.
I would be courageous enough to recommend the remake, but the PS1 version? Not really, that's just a trap that would make people drop the series prematurely.

In the first place I already think the "Arland" arc entails a lot of the qualities of the early games like Marie, but it has even more on top of that base.
>>
>>
>>729079463
You picked a great time to start, a bunch of the games are on sale right now.
I'd try Ryza 1 as a really good safe starting point. Sophie 1 is also a good option. Yumia (one of the newest entries) is a lot more of a generic open world game with deemphasized alchemy so if you're uncertain if the crafting would be fun for you that's a decent place to start as well. Really, just watch a little gameplay from each of the recent entries, see what strikes your fancy and then play it.

>The first Sophie is a good place to start
good idea anon, recommending bad games like Sophie is a good way to keep people like OP out of the fanbase.
>>
>>729085696
Isn't Sophie 2 the 4th game in it's series? Or does that not matter.
>>
>>729086295
>something you can't really do with a time limit.
the fuck are you talking about? "min-maxing" is all about getting the most out of the resources you have available, time limits only increase your ability to min-max, without time limits its not "min-maxing" it's just maxing.

Ayesha is also the best stand alone game in the series, so this is good advice.
Arland>>>Dusk, but that's E&L and Shallie's fault for dropping the ball.
>>
>>729095846
It was released later but chronoloically it's earlier, basically an interquel.
>>
>>729086249
Ryza games don't have time limits.
>>
>>729095991
they do though. you only have until you nut to Ryza's design before you realize you're playing a boring game and quit. Pretty much a 10 minute time limit on the game.
>>
>>729095991
Time limit is irrelevant since the Mysterious series back in 2015, Firis did have a return to a sort of "time limit" but it's so lenient that you can only fail if you try really hard.
>>
>>729095689
Good post.
>>
>>729079463
If you get any of the Ryza games Dx versions (the only ones available now) you get all the DLC so you can put all of the female party members in sexy bikinis. It’s great.
>>
>>
>>
>>729079463
The Arland games and Ayesha are pretty good.

>>729086249
It's worth noting that there is never actually a clock ticking down in most of the games that have a time limit. Time only passes when you commit to taking an action that takes time to complete. The point isn't rushing the player, but giving them a reason to pursue efficiency, which makes the games a lot more fun.
