I always see people calling fighting games dead, especially when they are referring to other skill based 1v1 games like arena shooters or RTS. But here is the thing, fighting games are more alive than they have ever been. You need to remember that fighting games are also on console, and most modern fighting games have crossplay enabled. Take the steam daily peak player count and triple it, that is basically the true daily peak of available players. I'd say there are probably anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 unique players daily when you take into account all modes. Compared to arena shooters, fighting games are incredibly thriving. We have active local scenes, competitive scenes, and online scenes. The biggest name in arena shooters only gets a peak of 400 players daily. RTS games may be a bit more popular than fighting games when it comes to player count, but our competitive and local scenes are actually alive and thriving. When you compare fighting games to other popular games, you have to remember it is a 1v1 game. A better metric to compare it to other games is to take the number of possible matches that could be happening at a time.

For example, in order to fill an ARC Raiders lobby you need 21 players. Lets take the peak and divide it by the amount of players you need to have a match.

>445,973/21 = 21237

Now lets do the same for Street Fighter 6

>37,646/2 = 18823

Note, these are only Steam numbers, the amount of playable matches at peak hours is actually much greater. Outside of the titans, the "liveliness" of SF6 is comparable to most popular multiplayer games.

Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm ESL.

how many of these people are in Japan just idling in battle hub for social status?

How many people are in CS:GO community servers or botting casual games to get case drops?

Op. There are 400 players on Blazblue and yet theres like 3 lobbies each with 2-3 people in them and ranked has 4 people in it. Where are the other retards? Staring at the main menu? A large part of the playerbase in these games arent even playing them.

Practice mode or story mode.

Do fighting fags think you learn by spamming combos for 10 hours? When are you guys going to start playing the game (Which means fighting a non training dummy)

Fighting games are dead, EXCEPT for street fighter. The genre as a whole is kill. Tekken died with 8. MK is even more of a joke than ever and is only selling to people who play campaign for a couple of hours. SNK can't make people play their games even with ridiculous marketing and tournament prize money. Guilty Gear is doing ok but at the cost of becoming complete trash and the designated genderspecial retard franchise..
Every new franchise or returning franchise that's not SF or GG is doomed to fail
If fucking riot can't make a game that gets massively popular it's fucking over for the genre.
At least SF6 lucked out and got viral with popular jap streamers and vtumors so it's huge there.
>>
Fighting games aren't dead, but they are not popular. They have just enough players to consistently get quick matches and that's good enough for fans of the genre. No other genre can have a player base so low and still survive.

Tekken 8 is more popular than Tekken 7.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is doing well
Tekken is doing well, despite people hating the game
Rivals of Aether 2 is doing fine, considering it's an indie game and an IP that no one gives a fuck about
CotW would be doing okay if SNK spent more time balancing the game and less time blowing Saudi oil money on marketing and egregiously high tournament prize pools
2XKO is doing poorly because it sucks and Riot has no idea what the fuck it's doing
>>
>>729092783

lol. lmao. That game is so unfun it's unreal and has the worst player retention in a fighting game.

66L and 20 second combos with the worst system mechanic (brave points) in fighting game history.
>>
fighting games are like MMORPGS where 90% of normies will flock to the 1 or 2 most popular games and the remaining ones are played by diehard autists
>>
>>729093967
>worst system mechanic (brave points) in fighting game history.
No, thats not the worst. Random tripping in Brawl, gems and Pandora in SFxT, Reversal edge in SC6, Danger time in Xrd and so on.

Framelinks and infinites maybe as well.
>>
>>729091037
Think about it like an arcade: there was often just couple of cabinets which had a queue but the max amount of players was always around 10 or so.
Have you ever seen an arcade with 400 players playing the same game?
I think the amount of players in these games are pretty realistic. No one wants to play beat em up games multiple hours every day, every week.
They are designed to be played in short bouts here and there.

>>729094561
>Brawl
Not a fighting game

>>729094621
He's right because it was a mechanic deliberately implemented to stop people from playing competitively (and then they did it anyway)

>>729094561

That was a good mechanic though

Should I install Touhou Hisoutensoku and Melty Blood Actress Again? I played a bit on Fightcade but that is dead and I dont know if they are worth it.

Melty is great

Good luck finding anyone to play them with tho

BBCF's got some long ass BNBs
>>
>>729091192
Nigger not everyone is playing fighters solely for online. This is why the genre is dying because it's been seen as a multiplayer only game and most fg devs refuse to actually expand the singleplayer content. Shoutout to SF6 having world tour mode (despite how shitty it is) and other fighting games that goes beyond arcade mode and survival mode.
>>
>>729089335
nu shit fighter isn't even a fighting game anymore, it's also dead
>>

Literally below SF6, T8 and Strive even other 3 fg's like MK11 or BBCF (one time).
>>
>>729089335
I'd rather SF die than go on as it is now. The thought that every SF going forward is gonna have some version of slime rush is depressing

Vast majority of my matches in SF6 aren't against other PC players, so I think it may even be more than triple to be honest.
Fighting games, I'd say especially so of Tekken and Mortal Kombat even moreso than Street Fighter, are a genre of game I feel like is played more by a console crowd of cazzies.

It's not sports/shooter, BUT, whenever I meet someone IRL who plays Tekken, Mortal Kombat, or Street Fighter, they're always someone who also largely players Madden/NBA2K/Call of Duty/Battlefield.
These same people even if I played Counter Strike or DOTA, they wouldn't be able to relate to me at all in that game. These aren't PC players.

>CotW would be doing okay if SNK spent more time balancing the game and less time blowing Saudi oil money on marketing and egregiously high tournament prize pools
CotW would be doing well if SNK spent more of that Saudi Oil money on making the game not look like it released in the year 2008.
Honestly, 2008 may be flattering it, Soul Calibur 4, Dead or Alive 4, and Tekken 6 look better than it. Maybe more launch Xbox 360.

Any good free fighting games aside from Fightcade?
>>
>>729089335
With fighting games you only need 2 people for a match. With a moba you need 10. Its really easy to get games in most fighters.
>>
>>729099353
Granblue Rising, 2XKO, Dead Or Alive 5, Dead Or Alive 6, Killer Instinct, Starward (Gacha), Brawlhalla (If you count it as a fighting game).
