Ironically my realm qualm with the fight is that both phase 1 and phase 2 are too short in their own way. Their healthpool is valid because its balanced for how many flasks you get, but i just really wish i could have been fighting them for longer. So i think they really need to do away with that stupid estus mechanic and replace it with something a little more dynamic for their healing mechanic

i think 'playing it wrong' is basically expecting to have no problems after playing the whole game with nothing but rolling as their defensive method. theres so many options like shields/parries, guard counters, deflecting hardtear, fancy iframe/quickstep/bloodhound step ashes, tools that rape enemy stance, or just plainly stacking lots of defense boosts.. this sort of stuff which lets you hold up against his second phase pretty well. id be a little bored if i spent the whole game while doing nothing but roll-and-poke for my defense
