You can tell that they got their budgets slashed, which is probably why Inafune immediately aimed to do a finale rather than chance and fight on it further. They all tried to do something that was their own, for better or (usually) worse. If you can, play X7 for about 10 minutes to understand what you're looking at, and then promptly move on.

What are your thoughts on the different foes in the classic series that were connected with Dr Wily in a way but were also shown as the main threat of the game they were introduced in? This is something I think the later games that take place in the Classic setting were missing, someone new to at least be there to make the game more ''unique'' than the other entries, maybe even give a second castle to make the game longer.
