>you have to pay us a subscription to use your Internet subscription
How did they get away with such absurd proposition?
>>
Actual cultists. The same people who seethe at steam users using the same term. Paying 100$ a year to access their servers is a scam.
>>
I personally let them. I'm sorry I should never have subscribed to Xbox Live Gold. It's literally all my fault. I know better now but it's too late...

Xbox sjowed it was possible and while it cergainly was detrimental to it, it paved the way. The more enclosed nature of consoles lead to it being possible.
Now there were attempts on PC (games for windows live) but the lack of centralized control over internet access and indeed the whome system made it a hard sell to say the least.

by following what Xbox Gold started

Jewish trickery. They saw what xbob was doing and realized they could ripoff their users for basic services.
Said servers cost literally nothing to these multi-million giants, by the way

I didn't know you owned PS and Nintendo servers for them to be "your own internet".
>>
>you must let me use your servers for free
Why are commies like this?
>>
>>729108882
I happily pay to keep poorfags like you out of my games
>>

Bitch please. These "servers" are just services hooked onto their storefronts that match-make you using peer-to-peer protocols to some dude using starlink and then completely drop out from the network. A phone call uses more resources.
>>
>>729110098
That's the thing though, they don't. How many games have you played that disbands/interrupts an online match when an assigned "host" leaves? I've played quite a few.
>>
>>729108882
Personally as someone who only buys physical I couldn’t imagine not owning my own games. But for some reason Steamies are fine with that
>>

There are servers that store leaderboard results, shared data, save game backups, etc. But they can subsidize them through the cut they get from the shops just like Steam does so this would still not be an argument. I blame Microsoft for normalizing this shit

>implying playing online games for free on your ungated communist bloc is a better alternative
I can afford security so I pay for it. Simple as.

The actual value proposition when Xbox Live first launched was that instead of having servers hosted by random people of varying quality like on PC, you would have first-class servers run by an actual company. Around that time during PC gaming, very few if any games shipped with dedicated servers provided by developers, it was all player-hosted.
Of course that is no longer the case. I would agree that NSO is basically just a ransom because Nintendo barely hosts any servers for their games.
