In 10 years' time, will the collective dickriding of this game (and its total sweep of the Game Awards) be looked back on as farcical and embarrassing?
No but in 10 years you'll still be seething and making daily threads about it
>>729110428Yes I think so, maybe even sooner.
>>729110428TLOU2 got 200 awards and GOTY and it was forgotten after 2 weeks.E33 wasn't even remembered until the game awards, everyone had forgotten about that garbage lmao.In 2 weeks nobody will talk about it anymore. Shame 2026 doesn't have any interesting game.
>>729110428E33 is only going to be remembered as the AI sloppa that robbed Silksong of it's rightful sweep
>>729110428It's going to be remembered for soft launching the acceptance of AI in games and for that I will always resent it
Unlike most of TGA(which are worthless regardless) it actually was better than everything else released this year. The only other games to share this accomplishment were Sekiro, Overwatch and BG3. All other years had better releases.
The widescale fellation of E33 is, I must confess, a laughable phenomenon to observe. An "indie" game made on a $10 million budget, with a star-studded voice cast and the backing of wealthy investors, while making use of Unreal Engine stock assets - and all propped up by an emotionally manipulative storyline that anyone who's read a book or two beyond the shallow end of contemporary fiction will recognize is trite and mawkish - sweeping every award in 2025 is perfectly fitting.Mechanically, the game completes the illusion. It is a JRPG designed for normies who hate (or rather, are embarrassed to be associated with) JRPGs and are far more interested in an "accessible and immersive" experience. The result is a combat loop that flatters the player’s sense of participation while asking almost nothing of them beyond rhythmic compliance: press the button, watch the spectacle. It's Pavlovian. The narrative is less a story than a checklist of affective cues, engineered to provoke recognition rather than reflection. It's all handled with the kind of solemn obviousness that mistakes earnestness for depth. It insists upon emotion as a substitute for thought. That this design philosophy is rewarded so thoroughly speaks less to the game’s individual failings than to the current critical ecosystem surrounding games. Awards culture increasingly favours works that resemble prestige television. E33's critical success rests almost entirely on an aggressively curated emotional register. Of course, to question the shallowness of such experiences is to risk being framed as elitist, even as the industry openly celebrates projects engineered to offend no one and challenge nothing.Don't mistake my point. E33 is not a catastrophe. It is worse than that: it is exemplary. It represents the logical endpoint of a medium desperate for cultural legitimacy, chasing validation by mimicking the least demanding forms of "serious" art while hollowing out what once made its genres distinct.
Wasn't it the same with FF7?
>>729110428This game in 10 years will be seen in the same way Bioshock Infinite is today.
>>729111527E33 is successful because 2025 has been a unremarkable year for vidya
>>729111776I'm feeling this. There are critically acclaimed, popular games that just disappear over time.
>>729111776Nah, come on. It's overrated but it is actually good. Bioshock Infinite was never good.
>>729110428You don't even need to wait that long. Everyone is already noticing the flaws of this game.
>>729110720I have 70+ hours on E33 and I agree with this based take.E33 will be the Jurassic Park to the future Ready Player Ones. This is the Trojan Horse.
>>729111909Infinite didn’t win GOTY awards, and a lot of its audience moved on to TLOU. It also helps that E33 is a better game on its own merits. Personally, I genuinely think it’ll be looked back on as a modern classic. I doubt think it’s going to be a revolutionary game that will change the industry, but it’ll be looked back on as one of the defining games of the 2020s.
Turn-based combat is objectively shit and should've never been brought into video games. It's a holdover from tabletop games and doesn't fit the medium, all video games should be realtime. E33 would've worked better as a novel.
>>729111527A daring synthesis.
>>729110572>E33 wasn't even remembered until the game awards, everyone had forgotten about that garbage lmaoI see we've reached the copium overdose phase where you start hallucinating and denying reality.
>>729110428I was thinking it could be another delusional case like RDR2, where people still treat it as the best piece of fiction ever made. But realistically, red dead has been living off of being rockstar's last game. E33 doesn't have that leverage.
>>729112421These last few months there were barely or really no threads in the catalog at all. Are you gonna gaslight people and claim the catalog was filled with E33 threads for 12 months?
>>729112226I agree to an extent, but I don't think it needs to completely die off. It needs to be modernized by for example including real time elements, which E33 did. Pure turn based is outdated, but if you include something that requires actual skill in it, I'd say it's a distinct enough experience from full real time games that it can and should exist.
>>729110428this game sweeping the game awards will only damage its legacy
>>729111694FF7 captured an audience of 10 year olds. E33 captured that same audience but then at 30+. Won't have the same lasting impact.
>>729110428It's an incredible game and I enjoy watching you niggers seethe about it.
>>729112383Synthesis is right, at least he bothered to replace the blatant emdashes with hyphens I guess.
>>729112612>if the catalog isn't filled with threads of one game that must mean no one ever played itWhy is it always extremes with you retards?
>>729112612Filled? No obviously not. No game can have that much interest. But there were at least weekly threads that had hundreds of replies each during that time. Pretending like no one was talking about it is pure retardation.
>>729112735>It's an incredible gamewhy?
>>729112802Jeets can't afford games so they spend all day on /v/ and think it's real life.
I genuinely like the game, but does anyone else feel like a big part of its hype came down to people wanting to give Ubisoft the finger by supporting their ex-employees? I swear people made such a big deal out of the fact that it wasn’t made by a AAA publisher, despite the fact there have been quite a few decently successful AA games over the past couple of years.
i want to play this game now now that the liberal cucks are seething at it. i haven't played turn-based since 2015
there's was a poll in resetera. it was considered the weakest goty of the last 5 years. baldurs gate 3 and elden ring are these best
>>729110428It has an actual fanbase so no lol
Expedition33 won multiple GOTYs BECAUSE it was made by AI. It's ahead of its time. Everything about it can be traced to a chatgpt prompt. The hallucinating plot, the lolsorandom character designs like Mime enemies. It proves that AI is just superior at giving people what they really want.
>>729116628>it was made by AIFalse.>Everything about it can be traced to a chatgpt promptIncorrect. They used AI to gen placeholder textures which were replaced with proper textures. That's it.>The hallucinating plotMeaning?>the lolsorandom character designs like Mime enemiesWhat?
>>729110428no because it's not a forever game
>>729117214>They were liars but ... I'll choose to believe that they only lied about this one thing they got caught for ... because I already spent $40 on the game okay?
>>729117214My apologies sir it seems you were given false directions, Reddit is actually down the hall and to the left
>>729117486What did they lie about?
>>729112110>better gameCan you name one harder puzzle than this one in E33?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_u18_BKczg>>729111527Pretty much what I would have said if I wasnt a retard,
The only guy in the entire production that did his job right was the composer. I give it two years tops before it starts featuring regularly in 'most overrated' articles and videos.
its already fucking embarrassing
Humans are retards who let their political bias cloud who they take inspiration from. AI doesn't need to search someone's twitter for "trans rights" before deciding to use their material or not.
>>729110428people won’t even look back on this game at all in 5 years time
>>729110428nobody will remember this game in 10 years. it reminds me of bioshock infinite. super hot at launch, but it left 0 impact.
>>729111527I figure this was where the game was going in the first 10 minutes. once I got to the docks and had another fucking cutscene with some random drunk niggers I knew exactly what was going to happen in the plot. this game fucking blows
>>729110428In 10 years people will be glazing Sandfall for going 3/3 on GOTY awards and you will still be here jerking off to cartoon children.
>>729112226paper mario is better. e33 is too slow and tedious. it has all the bad tropes of turn based RPGs with all the bad tropes of action games like hitstop
>>729119340Golden joystick, tga and...what is the third one?
>>729111527Exactly this, until you realize there is nothing wrong with every single point presented. It's only soulless in your head. Fucking grow up, holy shit. You're not smart because you have a slight sense of media literacy and used the word "Pavlovian".
