I hate the "epic hero doesn't have a helmet" look. It never fails to look ridiculous. WoW was a pretty bad offender but the absolute worst was 40k. The marines without helmets look utterly ridiculous with their dinky little head. It always reminds me of a kid wearing his dad's suit and stuffed it with toilet paper to fill it out. Just looks stupid as can be.I really like masks and helmets are just an extension of that. Bonus points for having the voice sound different because of a mask or helmet. The muffled voice from a mask, the echo-y sound of talking in a metal helmet, even when it sounds like the voice comes from a speaker when wearing some high tech power armor. Isaac's muffled screaming when you're stomping a necro out of frustration. Fycking love that shit. FFXII fell kind of flat for me but I kept playing it purely because of how the judges sounded. Just had to hear all their lines. Love it.

It throws off their body proportions and they have just this dinky pin head. It's silly. As much as I really crave some realism and stuff that looks functional it's not about that. They just look silly without a helmet if they are wearing some kind of armor.Although I always get a giggle out of the functional part. I always imagine all these soldiers with helmets and masks kicking up all thos dirt on the battlefield and our epic hero that's too cool for a helmet has to keep stopping because he took a dirt clot to the dome or keeps getting dust in his eye so he has to stop and rub at it.
