Considering a steam deck, found an under priced LCD model, I was going to wait for a Deck 2 but the RAM situation has me thinking to pull the trigger now. Anyone who got a deck regret it or love it more than they thought etc?I already have a Vita/Switch/3DS but the Vita form factor doesn't feel comfortable, and my Switch is CFW + it's a switch so performance is poor. In my mind I would be able to consolidate my library down to just my Deck+PC aside from exclusives etc.
Piggybacking because I’m in the same boat and I’m wondering if I should hold off and go OLED or just get a cheap base model.
It's strangley become my main console to play on over my desktop. I'm not playing any current AAA or AAAA games cause they suck, and my base model dexk can run everything I want to play.
>>729129305Deck is great and LCD is fine if you can find it cheap, with how things are going you're better off getting one now.>>729129376The LCD isnt in production anymore, so you would need to find one used. The cheapest base model is an OLED now.
>>729129305>>729129376for the love of god do not get the LCD model. The OLED model has almost 50% longer battery life, it has 90hz, and the screen is life changing with its infinite contrast and instant response times.
>>729129305I bought the 512gb LCD model last year and mostly use it for travels or when I can't access my pc and for that its really good. Usually I don't go for performance heavy games and the steam deck compatibility lists are hit or miss and therefore worth jack shit, for every newer or graphically intense games I wouldn't recommend it. Everything else it can do pretty flawlessly and I like the modding capability that enables workarounds to run non-steam games as well as some added QoL features you can add with relative ease. Question is always what do you need it for. If you already have capable devices it won't replace them but it's a nice addition for when you need it. Haven't tried emulating though, couldn't be arsed so far so dunno how well that one works.
>>729129305all my other consoles have been collecting dust ever since i got one. it is just a comfier way to play vidya
>>729129595 Agreed. If you can nab a cheap LCD one, especially the 512GB, it’s still a damn solid device. People get too hung up on the OLED hype-it’s better, yeah, no denying that. But unless you're maxing contrast sliders or gaming outdoors, the LCD does the job just fine. Pair it with CryoUtilities and a good fan curve, and you’ll legit forget it’s the “inferior” model. Plus, with how the Deck 2’s shaping up to be who-knows-when and maybe less repair/mod-friendly, snagging the current gen while it's mature and battle-tested isn't the worst idea at all.
It's not bad, I got the 64 GB LCD model for ~$300 a few years ago, and I would say I mildly regret it because I need to use Decky's cache cleaner somewhat regularly to stop cache and compatibility files from filling up the internal storage, but other than that I quite like it. I mainly use it for smaller, less demanding games, older games (just beat Severance Blade of Darkness on it back in November, currently working my way through Sengoku Rance) and indie games, which it's been pretty good for. I'd say if you do a lot of lighter gaming, play a lot of indie games, or play a lot of PC games that require the use of a mouse, it's a pretty good portable PC for that kind of stuff. If you're looking to play the latest AAA stuff however, you will probably be disappointed. To give you an idea, pic related is what Pragmata looks like on mine, and it runs at ~40-45 FPS.
>>729132548>>729130206I'm rarely on the cutting edge and I'd imagine my PC would be for recent games still. I'm more interested in having that comfort/mobility while still having my library, I like the switch when I finally got it but got annoyed by the weak power and awkward ports.
The steam deck is fine just be aware the reason it runs everything pretty well is because the resolution is a crisp dogshit 1280x800 and the screen is 60hz
If you check the site, it says that the LCD model has stopped production. So get it now or save up for OLED.>>729134783OLED model is 90hz, but I cap mine at 60.
I love my Deck. It made going through the backlog so much easier, and unlike other handhelds, it doesn't feel awful to hold (i have big hands). You can also get lossless scaling for better framerates if you want to tinker a bit, i've been playing dark souls 3 and it's so good with that
>>729129305I'm waiting for the Deck 2, given Valve is most likely going to discontinue the original Steam Deck in 2028 anyway and called the Deck 2 "Steam Deck". I might as well wait.
>>729129305If you want it and can get it now, get it while you can. Things are about to get bad. Stock up your vidya bomb shelter while you can.
>>729129305I've got a deck up and running again. The only issue I have, and I'm likely being retarded about it, is an easy way to fileshare.
>>729137463Like, between desktop and deck? If so, I'd google up 'Winscp steamdeck' and watch a tutorial. Real easy once setup
>>729137575You got me closer to my fix, thanks.
