Cheap computers has actually been rather unprecedented, considering hardware used to be in the thousands of dollars of in the 80s, it should only make sense that they cost much more today.
We had a good run, but PCs are just going to be more expensive now. It's not the end of the planet, I'm sure mobile phone manufacturers will find some way to make a cheap desktop alternative.
