I know you're not looking for one but want a real answer from just some random average Joe? I just kinda like Steam. Don't go running away with that and pretend like I think Gaben is the second coming of christ and Steam is god's gift to us. Nothing like that. I just don't think it's bad. For years it has just been my go-to shop for PC games. It's nice having everything in one place. Free games from Epic is nice and everything but if I really wanted to play it I probably already have a copy on Steam. If I didn't and the scenario in OP was what I faced, 90% off on Steam or free on Epic? I would still cough up the couple bucks and get it on Steam. I just like having everything in one place and I don't mind coughing up a couple bucks to keep it up. Steam has lots of other features that I mostly don't engage with so that's not really adding to my opinion here but I guess it's nice that they are there. But yeah, that's the long and short of it. I just kinda like Steam, it's easy, and everything is in one place. If that costs me a free game every once in a while I'm fine with that.

If I don't get a game on Steam it's basically like having pirated it. I don't get any of the fun community features like tracking my time or achievements, multiplayer games can't be played without crossplay (happened when Stranger of Paradise first launched on Epic), and I need to run games through Steam anyway since I rely on Steam Input for controller compatibility.
