>after 50 years, the Japanese have still not developed a single notable FPS game

Resident Evil 7 and Village.

Neither has anyone else
PD set an impossible standard

Perfect Dark wasn't even the best fps on the system.

Turok Rage Wars doesn't count because of the fucking multiplayer bug.

The robot is telling me that PD has more multiplayer features than TWINE. I'll play TWINE, but I'm pretty sure PD is better than it.
>>
thats because perfect dark is the pinnacle of fps and parallels the current tineline flawlessly
>>
The PD source port is one of the best N64 source ports so far
It's way better than Ship of Harkinian

Perfect Dark is one of the few fps games that has a co-op and counter-op mode
>>

I remember in 2000, after playing Perfect Dark, thinking, “Damn, this was the best FPS I’ve ever played in my life. I can only imagine what FPS games will be like in 10 or 20 years!” Little did I know that to this day Perfect Dark would still be the best FPS of all time. Shooter games went in a completely different direction, and nowadays FPS is synonymous with online multiplayer and hero shooters. How far we’ve fallen.

hasnt got a patch on the mystical ninja decomp

And even weirder, is that companies are functionally incapable of making a game like PD anymore. I could see a throwback PD being really popular - reuse assets and maps, make for a big online multiplayer game.

Functionally PD plays a lot like Unreal Tournament, and the story missions have objectives. It's not super complicated a concept. But the very genre of shooter just doesn't exist anymore. And the idiots in charge (Execs and devs) are clueless and just copy/follow whatever is popular.

Perfect Dark Multiplayer with bots it's so perfect
I wish modern games did the same. I want to play Splatoon 3 against bots.

a game being first person doesn't make it an fps, and besides RE games are bottom of the barrel trash like CoD or Fifa

always loved the voice lines from npcs in this game

probably my favorite multiplayer game on the system next to Mario Party 2 but needing to unlock everything in the later releases always annoyed me. makes me feel like I need to do my homework before I'm allowed to snipe my friends through walls with the farsight and laugh

>it's a shooter
>that you play from a first person perspective
>"no that's not a first person shooter."
Do you have any idea how retarded you sound?
>>
How come this does not feel as janky and does not lag as hard as goldeneye?
>>
>>729140790
Because it had an actual budget behind it
>>
>>729138846
TimeSplitters meanwhile had an entire trilogy made over the course of seven years when game devs today struggle to even shit out a single game in that same time. While they did reuse assets like a motherfucker for anything outside the campaigns (player models, maps, etc), you'd think that with today's tools and workflows, a game of TS2/FP's caliber could be made with more ease.

Suppose it comes down to a lack of discipline or the wrong people being in charge? Like there's probably plenty of skill and talent to go around, but my impression of modern game studios is that they're ran like adult daycares on top of maybe whatever other features they feel like the game must have, but surely Steamworks/Xbox Live/etc APIs can't be too bad to add?
>>
>>729140846
But its the same hardware and goldeneye looks worse?
Some of the levels with tons of guards like train or silo lag so bad the game is almost slowmo.
Similarly guard-heavy levels in PD like pelagic 2 or g5 building do not get so bad on the original console
>>
>>729140467
I tried so hard to get into this because I play a lot of FPS games, but
>gay
>not into anime
>not into guro
I feel like there's not really much there for me
And it doesn't help that it had crashing and screen tearing issues
>>

Rare got a lot better and squeezing out every last drop out of the N64's hardware as time went on. Conker and PD are nuts compared to early N64 games.
>>
>>729140790
>>729141153
Goldeneye and PD came out at different ends of the N64's life, the devs would've understood the hardware better and Rare was sure as fuck busy with it. The latter relies on the expansion pak as well for solo content, which is basically a RAM upgrade.
>>
>>729141153
>Golden Eye: 1997, also the second game Rare for the N64
>Perfect Dark: 2000
Gee, it's almost like Golden Eye was made before Perfect Dark during a time when the devs had very little experience with the N64 while Perfect Dark was made significantly later after they had made a few other games for said system. Also it's almost like Golden Eye was a movie licensed game which are generally just made on low budgets to cash in on a successful movie's popularity.

Ace Combat is a first person shooter.
