looking to do a playthrough of this, are any mods necessary?
is kensai any good
>>
>>729146592
Mods only necessary if playing the OG version.
If play Enhanced Edition, it's recommended (not mandatory, but heavily recommended) to use the mod I don't recall the name of that removes the new Beamdog companions.

BG1 on christmas sounds amazing

Yes actually, very good. But if I remember correctly it wasn't in the first game, only in the enhanced edition.

Or you can simply not take them to your party. It's really a nothingburger, I don't get why do people get so hung up on them.

it's a fair thing to be annoyed by. both Dorn and the Chaos sorcerer girl sequences are forced, and the dialogue feels so out-of-place from the rest of the game.
It works fine in BG2, not so much in BG1.

If those parts either did not have forced scenes, or had writing that was more similar to the rest of BG1, people would care less.

Kensai is broken as fuck if you dual class into Mage.

This might be a controversial opinion but I like to fiddle the reputation so party members don't leave if you go too high/low.
Managing reputation is AIDS

what for? dragonspear is dogshit

The only one I hate is Neera in BG2 because it's a forced cutscene using one of those types of cutscenes you can't skip through, smack bang in the middle of the bridge district so it's annoying to walk around, AND she has a second forced cutscene after you leave the bridge district
My god, what were they thinking
>>

Her quests are so unbelievably jarring and tonally off from the entire rest of the game. You can't ignore how weird and out of place that shit is. Very very labored pink hair disabled gamer pixie fantasy slop. Garbage.
>>
Did beamdog make any worthwhile additions to these games?
>>
>>729147474
her archetype would work fine. Minsc exists.
The problem is that they did not try to match the writing style of the original games at all making it feel very out of place.
The same characters and stories would work with different writing matching the style.

The thing is though that BG2 already has an annoying moralistic sjw bitch party member that won't stop whinging and her name is Aerie

Kensai sucks in BG1 because it's a low level adventure and heavy armor is king. Like monk, kensai probably never was a available subclass in the original version in the first place so newbies wouldn't accidentally choose a class meant for medium to high level adventures. I'd just play whatever class that sounds good for a low level adventure and then create a new character in BG2. There's really no reason to import your character, all you get is some minor extra exp. Like other anons said, kensai/mage dual class absolutely slaps in the sequel.
