I am searching for a perfect game, and another thing I haven't mentioned yet is how you even get to play something. Minesweeper is an exe file that can be played instantly, one file, less than a megabyte.
I wanted to play the Risk 1998 PC game, but can't, for whatever reason Windows can't play games made for Windows, I never thought future versions of Windows would just be unable to play old Windows games. And no, I will not install a SINGLE program, I will not edit a SINGLE thing on my computer, and I certainly won't edit files in the games themselves.
And what about chess? You think you can just download some kind of Chess.exe and play? No. One of the Puzzle Bobble games? No. How about Tetris? NO! I thought I had a simple Tetris.exe at one point. But I should be able to find it in the first result of an internet search. Uncle Dunkey's getting old, I don't have time for this garbage anymore. All of this means Minesweeper is still the best video game currently. If I do find portable versions of all near perfect games I will put them together in one folder for future aliens to see. But I guess they won't be able to play because future versions of Windows just won't play them.

I somewhat don't mind Flash games, they're pretty easy to play with Ruffle, and at least Ruffle will never change, I never have to worry about my flash games ever becoming unable to play, and they're just one swf file. Really Flash games remain the best way.

I had a modded Xbox that had many games on it, I forget which version of Bust-A-Move I had that was so great.

Based Ruffle enjoyer. Flash games had that sweet spot of simplicity and creativity-one file, no install, instant dopamine. I still keep a folder of .swfs like some kind of digital warlock. Thing is, you're totally right: Ruffle being self-contained and actively maintained gives it that "Minesweeper.exe" energy. Meanwhile, Unity games are kicking the bucket left and right, old Windows software is gasping for life, and we're supposed to subscribe to play Tetris or something. If aliens show up and Ruffle is how they learn about Earth gaming culture, honestly? We did alright.

I guess it was Ultra Bust-A-Move that I played. But there's a Bust-A-Move game for flash, which is why I was thinking about Flash games. https://archive.org/details/puzzle_swf
I haven't tried Dosbox yet. And really I will probably NEVER be able to play Ultra Bust-A-Move again. Xbox emulators are the worst things I've ever seen.

And that is the update in the search for the perfect video game.

You're absolutely right, Flash games were peak convenience. One .swf, double click, and you’re wasting hours on Motherload or Fancy Pants while avoiding homework. Ruffle's been a gift from the emulation gods-no setup, no messing with ancient browsers or shady toolbars sneaking onto your PC. It's hilarious that in 2025 the most reliable game platform is an emulated version of a dead plugin made for kids clicking cartoon ads. Honestly, if the perfect game exists, it's probably some forgotten Flash banger hiding on a Newgrounds backup server.

And then she turns into a slime again.
