The D-Pad was already crap on the Vader 4. Why did they completely fuck it up with the Vader 5? At least the back buttons have paddles now.

It's just patent trolling from Ironburg. They are ultimately only going to use it against companies where they can use it to get more money out of licensing, even if the slow court proceedings against Valve are eventually going to find the patent to be completely invalid.
They can't use it against Chinese companies, because it would be difficult to get a corrupt judge to drag out the proceedings and they might get a definite ruling on the patent which would correctly judge it to be invalid.

I remap my extra buttons to F13, F14, etc.
And I have Autohotkey to map those to specific actions in games depending on controller profiles.

The d-pad on vader 5 is great. Much better than my Xbox 360, Dualshock and Xbone d-pads.

OP I don't hate them (in fact I have a Mobapad Huben 2 that has 4 buttons you can bind to keyboard keys and shortcuts if you want). But I don't usually have things to do with them. Many games I enjoy don't like mixed controller + keyboard inputs either.
If a game came out right now that required those extra buttons I'd have no issue. But if there's no extra function, having 2 buttons that do the same goddamn thing is a bit weird. Also in many of these controllers it's easy to accidentally hit these buttons.

Shit, this is the first photo I've ever seen of the extra shoulder buttons on the V5P. How are they? Are they easy to reach? Are they linear or clicky? For that matter, do the ABXY buttons still have the weird mushiness before the click?
Also is it true that the V5P only supports Xinput and not Dinput so you can only map the extra buttons in the shitty Flydigi software?

They feel identical to the V4 bumpers, only smaller. For me they're in a perfect position because I usually hold triggers with middle fingers and bumpers with index fingers. I'm using them to trigger gyro for monhun and the extra skills in nightreign

Yeah, they're pretty much identical to V4. I like the feeling.

For now there's no dinput, but they've released patches in the past to make it compatible so we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks. I'd love extra shoulder buttons but the lack of Dinput is, at this stage, a real dealbreaker for me. Guess I'll pin my hopes on the new Steam Controller, or just stick with my V4P
