>do you still collect physical games?
I don't call it collecting, I call it owning.
>do you think they offer a benefit over piracy
Yes, you are supporting the economy and telling corps what you actually want and they like profits so if they don't do what you want just stop giving them money, like I said before the CEOs are the last man standing and have golden parasuits so don't think piracy is any form of legit boycotting/activism.
Piracy is for when you cannot afford it, it's that simple, yet people act a shame or cope about it.
>gog
GoG is a scam they make you feel conferable, and then screw you over, if it's a """"service"""" model of any kind you are getting a disservice.
>version control
Well if you are the dev you are in full control, so physical media doesn't matter that much.

why?

Because there is little these companies can do to take it away it's physical so better protection in court because they don't understand digital and think these practices are okay and more in the user's control which typical digital games aren't. and also good luck incarcerating me my console is offline as well so they cannot send codes to block it.

The only thing that matters is a lack of DRM and no need to phone home to get every feature. Physical all too often has copy protection or obfuscation that prevents you from doing anything with the files like backing them up, modding them and so on. Newer consoles like Switch 2 are even using their online connection to fuck you over even on physical.
>Signalling to corpos
Publishers do not take actions that you like in response to money, you are not promoting the creation of more things you like, you are not voting with your wallet because you are outweighed massively by existing interest groups.

No.

They probably can, and honestly, having a circuit board I can plug into a port on a computer to play a game would be nice to see again. However, most games now are just data files saved to a read/write device or not even that, just license keys that allow you to download the game from an online server. There's zero benefit to a "physical copy" when all it really does is just add the game to a Steam library.

GOG, at least, lets you have a version of the game you can play anytime and can't force you to "update" when a license runs out or a developer wants to push a change. They're preferable to Steam and online console stores at least in that sense.

What I also want to add on to this to make it clear is. When you do things like physical media and ensuring there is no internet involved you are taken them out of the control as much as possible. without internet you cannot have digital media to begin with, the physical product come with the game and an identifier or what some call "DRM" to show it's an actual copy so you have much more proof of having bought it. Anything that proofs you did everything as much as possible to be by the book is better.
And that identifier is controlled by service models like the so called "store front", they control the keys they can say when and when not you own it, also when they go bankrupt so goes the proof. That's why they have so much control on you.
And gog is deceiving as they talk about being anti-DRM but that doesn't matter as they still control your account and any proof, effectively when they kill of your account your game is no longer valid, so you paid for a pirated copy.

I have completely different view on this and I don't care when retards or >>>/v/ think otherwise I stand with it.

It's just a piece of plastic, physical games are labubus for nerds.
