Uh oh! You didn't go back far enough.

you get 90% of icq in xmpp
however someone would have to write the client
>>
Reminder that discord is the modern equivalent of xfire and irc.

I preferred AIM personally.

Also Trillian 4 allowed you to use AIM, ICQ and MSN Messenger at the same time. And auto logged all messages you made to disk. Really useful thing.
I should look up if it's still working, facebook killed their desktop messenger app so I'd need some replacement to it.

I really liked Trillian. I can't remember why I stopped using it. I think they got greedy at some point and did something to piss me off. Looks like they're trying to get a piece of the Slack/Teams pie now.

I don't blame them. Gamers aren't leaving Discord anytime soon. Supporting Discord as a protocol would be an unmaintanable nightmare and a lawsuit risk. You can get an entire business on board much easier AND get paid more.

Yeah, I just checked it, it can't connect to fuck all now. Only allows adding xmpp/jabber, irc, olark, and pop3/imap (why?) accounts. Which kind of makes it completely useless.

At least making and deleting an account is really fast and doesn't require 83 steps of email and phone number verification.

This is because they're all open protocols. Back then every single communicator was running some sort of modifier XMPP server which made it extremely easy to support multiple vendors.

>reminder goy, that trooncord is the modern equivilent of having your own irc server that you completely control its just not a server you control and can be deleted the moment someone makes a burner account, says something in your channel, edits it to being something illegal, and then reports himself and your channel with his own post so the whole thing gets deleted and you and your friends banned for false charges because the ai judge, jury, and executioner decided it would be cheaper to just delete all your stuff than risk having discord corporation have to pay fines and legal fees

yeah sure, whatever you say.
