Super > AM2R = Fusion > Prime 2 > Prime 4 = Prime 1 > Metroid 1 > Prime Hunters > Dread > Prime 3 > Samus Returns > Prime Pinball = Zero Mission > Federation Force > Metroid 2 = Other M

There is much to dislike, bit I think the lack of substantial flavor text and too few lore scans are dissapointing.

The enviroments are great though but get more boring as the game advances
>>
The good:
>Music
>Graphics
>Performance
>Boss fights
>Combat

The bad:
>Pacing
>Writing
>Lore
>Level design
>The desert as a whole
>The bike as a whole
>The Feddies
>Lack of meaningful choice or backtracking
>Game's short [12-15 hours for 100%]
>Literally doubled down on every historical complaint that the fans ever had about Prime 1-3
>>
>>729162274
To elaborate on the final point:
>Elementally themed unrealistic "video gamey" biomes [Prime 1]
>Ammo system [Prime 2]
>Even more yappy NPCs [Prime 3]
>Endgame fetch quests [Every Prime Game]
These are all complaints people had about Prime Trilogy that everybody widely agreed on even in hardcore fan communities.

>>Literally doubled down on every historical complaint that the fans ever had about Prime 1-3
why devs do this? who wants these? I thought they wanted to sell a product. why make a product that the customer does not want? why make that product again after the customers proved they did not want that, causing less sales? why do they keep doing this? why does this keep repeating?

Out of touch execs mostly. Somebody was LARPing like he had insider info about Prime 4 and he was saying Tanabe was extremely fixated on the Sol Valley as being the game's big cool thing but that they ran into engine and hardware limits that forced them to make it gay. Allegedly the plan for was Sol Valley to be labyrinthine and complex but since Prime 4 is still using the Prime 1 engine but just heavily upgraded and modded, such things weren't possible.
>>

>combat
Honestly felt like shit. The only time shooting in Prime ever felt good was on the Wii collection. The Switch 2 mouse controls don’t even compare.
>>
>>729163752
I didn't use the mouse. I just used gyro aiming and it was fun.

You know the enemies had weakspots they never tell you about right? Like the repair tanks die in like 5 powerbeam shots if you target their head. Grievers also take bonus damage if you shoot them in their swollen throats when they engorge them.
>>
>>729163350
Firstly, the companies are always seeking a wider audience beyond just the legacy fans.
Secondly, play-testers are notoriously retarded.
>>
>>729160115
Should've just turned Metroid into dating sim
>>
>>729163863
I like that if you freeze a griever mid pounce they instantly shatter and die when they hit the ground. I don’t know why other airborne enemies don’t just instantly shatter either.
>>
>>729163576
it isn't as bad as the outright alien suit environment I bet, those money grubbers communicate in ways that might not even be human and are just useful as money magnets, but tanabe and co are clearly game nerds like the consumers. literally A FUCKING DESERT after Wind Waker's mixed ocean is a red flag, he should have seen that.
I can understand Other M moments like Sakamoto not controlling his punches and nerding out his way, which ended up with a whole bag of fun worms to watch but a meh game overall, but Tanabe is a repeat offender, he's trying to punch concrete by now.

retro just never should have returned to Metroid. I was telling you all this for years. They're not the same people who made the first three.
If anything, they should have stuck to Donkey Kong.

At the very least, it's believable that Sol Valley chewed up the dev time, if they're using the same engine from the Prime Remaster.

It really is amazing how Prime 4 hits every single checkmark of the things I've warned people over. Like how does Nintendo screw the pooch this badly?
>>
>>729174330
They hired a bunch of mainstream North American AAA studio alumni who brought that cancer with them into the studio.
>>
>>729164132
Nah man, I get it. It's like getting the band back together but it's just the drummer and a dude who remembers the lyrics wrong. Retro’s got the name but none of the soul left. Prime 4 feels like a cosplay of its own legacy. They should’ve let MercurySteam cook or just made another DK game with those buttery-ass physics and god-tier level design. At least Funky Kong doesn’t disappoint.

MEtroidvanias are about meaningul and rewarding backtracking. Prime 4 is hardly even a MEtroidvania that's how bad the backtracking is. Going through an empty desert 40 times is not fun or good or rewarding.
>>
>>729174330
>Like how does Nintendo screw the pooch this badly?
It fits their formula to a T. It is exactly what the nintendo checklist says needs to be in a game.
>>
>>729162274
>>Boss fights
I don't know if I'd even really say that. I can see why, but I remember the major bosses in Prime 2 having multiple phases, and the vast majority of bosses in Prime 4 (outside of final sylux and the dragon) don't have multiple phases.
>>
>>729174964
Yeah but the designs were fun. The actual gameplay of fighting them was solid and because of the changes to strafe dashing you really felt more in control and powerful than before. But yes the Sylux fights are carrying a lot of weight. I do think the major zone bosses were solid too though. The only weak shit was the shitty throwaway bosses they forced during the mech parts segment.

Prime 4 was more fun than Dread.

I haven't played it yet, which is crazy because the original trilogy are some of my favourite games of all time.

I just had a terrible feeling about it as soon as I saw that fucking motorcycle. I'm not even sure why but as soon as I saw a screenshot of it I was sure this wouldn't be the game I wanted and from everything I've read it sounds like I was right.

Still blaming corporate for the choices devs make
Literally no matter how much they openly advertise, loudly shout and incessantly protest how much they fucking despise you, their paying customer, you will gurgle that twitter/bluesky activist marxist californian/austin tranny cock, and you will be happy.

>Game's short [12-15 hours for 100%]
This is more neutral than inherently good or bad. Plenty of short games that are 10/10 experiences which also take advantage of their short runtime, like a certain other games in this very series.
