Video games are inherently the most artificial medium. You can pause, save, restart. You're given controls, instructions, stats. Characters can only speak what they're coded to say. Your traversal is limited and arbitrary to where you can go. Pathologic merely makes that an in-universe feature.
Books are inherently the most artificial medium. You can put it down, place a bookmark, start from the beginning, or just skip to the end. You're given a table of contents, chapters, paragraphs, and sometimes an index. Characters can only speak what they're written to say. Your traversal is limited and arbitrary to where you can go.
