Why do people claim Disco Elysium set the bar for videogame writing when Pathologic exists?
>>
pathologic has good story and setting but bad writing
>>
>>729161728
Is there finally a properly translated version where you don't get stuck even without a guide?
>>
>>729161728
>Akshully it was all a dream/fantasy
Why are you praising Patho?
>>
>>729161864
...
There is a well translated version since 2015
>>
>>729161728
because more than 1000 people actually played disco elysium
>>
What's bad about the writing in Pathologic? Too weird for you, OP?

>>729161915
>>729161864
>>729161825
>/v/ is so contrarian it even has to be anti-Pathologic, one of the most niche and narrowly liked games ever made
we're reaching levels of autism that shouldn't be psosible.
>>
>>729161728
Honestly the most remarkable part of Pathologic's writing is how it puts you into the Bachelor's shoes and makes you as jaded and fed up with the town as he is.

People want the meta aspects too much, even if it was ahead of it's time.
>>
>>729162486
Sorry anon but I have had Pathologic shilled at me for years. I watched the Mandalore video the other day and the reveal that it all took place in a dollhouse thing is ultra cringe and makes me glad I never played it.

Art school Bullshit: The Game
>>
>>729161728
Because they're trannies. Pathologic blows Disco Elysium out of the water unless your metric for good writing is number of Marvel-tier quips.
>>
>>729162567
>I don't like Pathologic because my favorite eceleb said it's bad
lord please let this be bait

>>729162723
yes, personally I think it's the best combination of art and video games ever made, though it's more art than game. It is intentionally stressful, as part of the message
>>
>>729162928
Mandy did the opposite of saying it's bad. Learn to read, dickshitting idiot.
>>729162486
You also need to learn to read.
t. not OP
>>
>>729162928
He likes it though. It'
s just that I can't imagine a worse result for a slow paced story game

>IT WAS ALL FAKE LOL
It -always- a bad thing. And then later on the devs speak directly to the player? Also MEGA cringe.

If you consider this good writing I really hope you bleed out from the axe wound between your legs

Dollhouse isnt even the twist
>>

Don't care. It's game ruiningly cringe. I'll never play it and feel completely justified in doing so.

this is such a retard mindset, like reading the last few pages of a book and deciding the book sucks because you don't like what you read there, but you have zero understanding of what that ending means and how it reached that point.
>>
>>729163278
>>he doesn't get it
I get it, it just isn't funny. Disco Elysium is Rick and Morty for downwardly mobile white trannies who are envious that they aren't smart, talented, or creative enough to maintain the social status of their parents.
>>
>>729163810
>ou have zero understanding of what that ending means and how it reached that point.
I don't care. They chose an unforgiveable sin of storytelling.

I will ALWAYS be glad to be spoiled on dogshit stories that ruin themselves with "IT WAS ALL A DREAM" bullshit
>>
>>729161728
>slavshit slop for 3rd worlders
Biggest pile of shit i have ever played and glad i didn't bother finishing it
>>
>>729161728
DE set the lower limit for writing, retard.
>>
>>729161728
because Pathologic filters people. DE has no challenge.

Call me an elitist but you genuinely don't understand what you're talking about. I'd explain it to you, how you're misapplying that generally reasonable rule of thumb in this case, but it would take a long time and I don't want to, and you won't read it.

anyway fuck you
>>
>>729164263
Correct. Good choice. And no, there are no exceptions. When you decide to undermine your story with ultra-cringe meta faggotry, you can go fuck yourself in hell forever.
>>
>>729164369
You're like one of those monkeys that gets mad at mirrors.
>>
>>729163957
Any person who starts any statement about art with "X is ALWAYS bad" or "Y is always good" is illiterate when it comes deeper analysis and is not allowed to talk about what are unforgiveable sins.
I am telling you this as someone who absolutely hates "it was all a dream" trope. A good writer can manage to pull off a "bad" trope, and the only way to claim there are no exceptions is if you experienced every story in the world. It is one thing to have an opinion that a certain trope doesn't suit your tastes based on your experience with it where you hated all those works but nobody has the authority to claim it is literally impossible to be done right. If you can't even imagine it being done right, then that's a testament to your imagination, not to everyone else's.
>>

Don't care.

Don't. Care.
>BUT THIS ONE DOES IT RIGHT
Don't. Care.

In games of all things, which ask more commitment and effort than any other story medium, invalidating my effort and the stakes is suicidally retarded.
>>
>>729166412
>invalidating my effort and the stakes is suicidally retarded.
but that's not what it does here, anon. you fundamentally don't understand because you just watched a youtube video

this is like complaining about how fiction books are stupid and invalidate your effort reading the book because none of that stuff actually happened

/v/etards can't entertain an idea of symbolism when the "twist" is revealed to them.

Game is ludokino.
>>
>>729161728
There are no videogames with good writing
>>
>>729166539
You say that but you can't rove it. Pathological is some gay dollhouse shit and later on pretends to be a stage play in Patho 2.

It's fundamentally MEGA RETARDED.
>>
>pathologic 2
>its just pathologic 1 again
>pathologic 3
>its just pathologic 1 AGAIN
what the hell seriously
>>
Video games are inherently the most artificial medium. You can pause, save, restart. You're given controls, instructions, stats. Characters can only speak what they're coded to say. Your traversal is limited and arbitrary to where you can go. Pathologic merely makes that an in-universe feature.

Books are inherently the most artificial medium. You can put it down, place a bookmark, start from the beginning, or just skip to the end. You're given a table of contents, chapters, paragraphs, and sometimes an index. Characters can only speak what they're written to say. Your traversal is limited and arbitrary to where you can go. Lord of the Rings merely makes that an in-universe feature.

>Random graffiti artist in a setting based on 70s Europe talks like a 2010s Californian transexual Rick and Morty writer
Yes, this is bad writing.
>>
>>729168632
It's a joke, fool.
>>
>>729161915
You know it's a game, that it's not real, so why are you mad?
>>
>>729168917
It's a bad joke spic
>>
>>729161728
Because Disco Elysium isn't a horrific chore to play and has superior pacing and range in its writing than Pathologic. Pathologic 2 is also the better game between 1 and 2.
>>
>>729166938
Pathologic 4 will also be etc. Thanks, TinyBuild!
What do you think would have been better titles? Personally, I'm unbothered by "remakes are sequels" title schemes.
>>
>>729168632
I have no idea what any of this means, anyway maybe take a chill pill
