Why is the lore so confusing for a fighting game?

Even Mortal Kombat went a little heavy on its lore but it remains straightforward, for the most part. Guilty Gear seems like it has no real central conflict so everyone has different plot threads that don't intersect, leaving a shitload of ongoing events to process at any given time.

Well, the story is exactly like that because back in the day you'd have a different ending for each arcade run. GGXXAC even has VN styled multiple routes that change based on your performance, shit is a pain in the ass to follow.
I like how BB did it in the sense that you have a single VN with fights in between

Because fighting game character additions aren't generally made with story expansion in mind.

Because over time Daisuke became more and more of a faggot and the story was just whitewashing everything that came before. Thats how strive ended up being a story where literally nobody is the bad guy and everyone is the victim even the evil world ending robot god that nuked cities and existed purely because they needed something to blame for everything wrong in the world since Daisuke wanted That Man to be a good boy who never did a single thing wrong

Because everyone is going to have their own favorite character and you it's harder to make a plot that will appease everyone than it is to just give everyone an ending and let future installments make sense of things later. This was something fans quietly accepted because it was fun to watch each ending even if only a select would matter later on.
