The gameplay and general writing of Nier are dogshit but there's something about the worldbuilding and atmosphere that keep me hooked. I bought all the manga and novels recently and they're also just pure dogshit unless you're a japanese teenage girl I'm assuming. Fuck I cannot put it down though. Just watch playthroughs of cutscenes of Drakengard, looks unfun as fuck to play, don't know if 3 is any different.

Nier has a lot more links to Drakengard like the Red-Eyes guy, but that's like schizo side content stuff that's outside the game and doesn't really come up at all until a visual reference in Automata.

I completed drakengard 1 and it's fine as a curiosity on its own, but is completely irrelevant to nier aside from the trivia about the dragon head. if you actually want to play NIER play the 360 one with Papa Nier; infinitely better than twink nier and the story is far better too since the father saving his daughter is a much more fitting story and nier makes more sense as a father figure to kaine as well. furthermore, replicant is basically a quasi sequel + demake due to all the crap they shoved in and there's only a few key references from the first game in automata that are all in the superior papa nier version anyways.

And Taro did have some small involvement (not in writing though).And Taro DIDN'T create Drakengard. The creators were Takamasa Shiba and Takuya Iwasaki, with the main story and the main route written by Iwasaki and Sawako Natori.
