>Indie game awards

It's was just marketing from Indie game awards, as no one knew they existed a week ago.
>>
>>729168314
Yes, but only because it isn't an indie game
>>
>Awards matter

lmao since when? This year was so shit for games literally nothing should have won any awards.
>>
>>729168314
It should have been disqualified from every single indie award in any game show because it's not an indie game.

>Has a publisher
>Had 10M+ in funding
>Used AI, which most people hate
>Is a unity store asset flip, a polished asset flip, but still an asset flip
>Devs all had previous experience with the industry
>Their publisher had more of their games shown at the VGAs than any other publisher

>Devs all had previous experience with the industry
Indie game does not mean "This is the first time we're working on a game".

It barely qualified as indie to begin with, but I want to have sex with Lune, so I'm conflicted.
>>
>>729168806
No, of couse not. But indie does mean 'independent', and having a publisher and a 10m+ AAA budget means you aren't, gasp, an indie developer or indie studio anymore. No one says E33 isn't a good game. But it's not an INDIE game.
>>
>>729168451
This and who cares what some trannies think?
>>
>>729168314
No because it wasn't a rule against what they were "DQ'd" for in the first place.

Citation needed.
>inb4 jeet
If anything using AI is more useful for indie devs because they gain more from the productivity increase or supplementing areas where the team or solo dev lack talent.
I understand the arguments about AI, but I don't think it has any bearing on what makes a game "indie".
>>
yes they used ai to make the entire game
>>
>>729168314
Yes of course
>>
>>729169085
>tell nominees that the game can't have used generative AI in it's development
>make them all certify that they did not use AI in their games
>lie about using AI in their game
>make press statements saying you've used AI in your game
>is disqualified for using AI in their games and awards removed
>"REEEEEEEEEE HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEE? THERE WEREN'T RULES ABOUT AI USAGE, EVEN THOUGH LITERALLY EVERY OTHER NOMINEE AND WINNER COULD CONFIRM THE EXACT SAME AI AGREEMENT REEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

But most importantly,
>has a publisher and a 10M+ budget
>is not an indie game

>>729169459
nigger, what? they've admitted it multiple times. /v/ has been shitting on E33 since the game awards posting the asset flips and AI posters. Google it and you'll find about 500 different articles or plebbit posts.
>>
>>729168989
The publisher is made up of smaller studios pooling together and funding the other & having a budget of millions disqualifies games like cuphead from being "indie"

>The publisher is made up of-
Nope, you gotta stop after 'The publisher'. That's the most important bit, and what literally defines an indie game or not. Self published? You're indie. Have a publisher? Not indie.

I meant that I needed a citation showing "most people hate" AI. I'm not denying that they used it, I'm saying that it's not a big deal to most people.
While I'm not enthused about the deluge of slop it enables, E33 is proof that you can use AI AND make something good.
AI is a genie that isn't going back in the bottle, so you're better off adapting to that fact and praising where it is used well, rather than complaining if it gets used at all. If the end product is good, the means to create it matter little. Call me Indian or Jewish if you want. It's all just cope and seethe at the end of the day.

They only used AI as far just being temp placeholders for some textures on a lamppost. It's no different from when filmmakers would insert existing music during editing as temporary placeholders to communicate the director's vision to the composer.

>publisher
Balatro has a publisher. Devolver games are still seen as indie. If a youtuber like Dunkey can LARP as a publisher then having one doesn't mean shit unless it's something in the ballpark of Nexon.
>10m+ funding
Hollow Knight sold a gorillion and let them fuck around for 7 years for the sequel. Hades sold a million.
>>
>>729168314
Yes it's not indie plus they didn't disclose the AI use so they should have gotten booted from most awards if we're being honest.
>>
>>729170509
It's a classic case of ever shifting goalposts with these fags, just like they can't define what a woman is. Everything is subjective, everything will be how they like it or it gets removed

Not a fan of AI or asset flips either, but none of these are relevant to if a game is indie or not. The funding and arguably having a publisher are the only ones that matter.

>>729170509
Personally I draw the line on if the publisher investing money up front to develop the game or is only taking a cut of the games profits in exchange for (allegedly) marketing the already finished game. Which still doesnt fit with the literal definition of "Indie" but the term always sucked ass and was just meant to mean "small janky cheaper game made by a one guy or a very small team of people making no money off during development it and hoping the profits afterwards justify it (or are actually doing it just for the love of it)". Frankly I dont know how something like silksong (or minecraft post success) properly fits. They are too rich to be indie, but I dont know, I guess they grandfathered in on the grounds that their money is from an indie game?

>nigger, what? they've admitted it multiple times. /v/ has been shitting on E33 since the game awards posting the asset flips and AI posters.
and those 500 posts all show the same 2 fucking textures, because that was an isolated case of placeholders being overlooked. Retard. There wasn't suppposed to be anything AI generated in the release build.

>>Is a unity store asset flip, a polished asset flip, but still an asset flip
unreal*
And what are those assets? Some traversal animations that work perfectly, are they supposed to reinvent the wheel for the same result? Or models of sheeps and squirrels? those are literally nothing. Not to mention The clair obscur team has also been releasing assets on the store.
For an ambitious AA game with such a small team, you use the tools available, or you're a complete retard.
