Do all immersive sims kind of suck?
I want to play something like Fallout and just lose myself in a big world I can explore while leveling up different skills and the like
But it's always either
1. Some jank game from the 2000's that people have nostalgia goggles for
2. Mediocre shallow-as-shit AAA titles like Skyrim, Fallout 4, etc.
3. Autistic indieshit where you can spend eight hours making your character but then the actual game is a fucking snoozefest like Underrail

A lot do yeah, honestly try Caves Of Qud, I know it's not an imsim but you might like a lot if attention to detail and worldbuilding and so on is your thing

>lose myself in a big world I can explore while leveling up different skills and the like
Why are you looking for CRPGs and imsims then? Just play Dark Souls or a JRPG or something.
>Mediocre shallow-as-shit AAA titles like Skyrim
Play Morrowind instead.

Most of companies that made immersive sims and similar went bankrupt or got bought by bigger companies that streamlined them. Think bioshiock, deus ex, prey 2017, dishonored and of course to lesser extent elder scrolls and fallout.
I say you need to give up and move on. Times change and the type of games you enjoy are simply no longer popular. Same thing happened to other genres like arena shooters, RTS and MMOs; sure they are still made to lesser degree but they are only a shadow of they used to be; what they will ever be.

They wasnt any were there? Its pretty obvious op is talking about open world rpgs. I think they should try cyberpunk.

This guy has one option. But, your other option is to quit bitching and learn to make your own games.
The most universal problem in gaming culture right now, is too many people bitching about problems, and not having the motivation to actually learn some fucking skills and become a creator yourself. Make the game you want to play.
Bad press is still good press. You bitching about these games is giving them a free ad. You are the problem.

Bethesda shit is not immersive sim.

The genre has never been fully realised or lived up to its potential. It really does seem that almost every immersive sim is unfinished in some way.

Only problem with Caves of Qud is it looks like Caves of Qud. I can stomach something that looks like it belongs on DOS when it's Civ or Master of Magic or Buck Rogers but that's about the extent of it. I'll give it a go, though.

>Play a JRPG
Don't really feel a part of the larger world, its story feels an external narrative to experience, like playing through a movie or book.
>Dark Souls
Played all those already
>Morrowind
Played that to death too

Sorry, I've been through the Dude Sex and the Vamp Masks and Preys.

Probably just the case that anything open world get ensloppified while anything narrower got focused down into a more linear experience. Speaking of MMOs, I miss games like Everquest, where you could just go explore a big fuckoff world. Most games that try to be big also tend to be really empty. Maybe I should just play Kenshi and get over the jank, fuck.
