I like the idea of Deadlock, but it feels really fucking lame to lose to someone with worse aiming because they pressed a button and their hero's ability is really good in that "press the button" spot. Every game, even shooters, have stuff like that, but Deadlock has a lot more of that than other hero shooters, that seem more dependent on actual shooting being the king.

They are fun for learning to fight, aim, and keep track of abilities well. Then, you have to go play CS and thats about it. Also, there is no reason to switch heroes mid-match but the whole game was supposed to be designed around that.

THE defining aspect of a hero shooter more than any gameplay thing is "are the characters generic guys or are they established people" and TF2 kind of coyly plays at being both almost but it leans way more towards the latter, moreso as it goes. the tf2 comic doesn't ask "but what happened to the BLU heavy?" it doesn't matter that's barely even a characteryou can have a game with hero-like systems in the classes like unique abilities and stuff and people will call it "class based" if the heroes aren't heroic. they are in tf2
