anyone play vintage story? is it just worse minecraft or is it a good game in its own right?
>>729181396U ken maek picklez
its the game i imagined minecraft would become when i was a child playing infdev
>>729181396Minecraft if it was serious about survival
>>729181396It's great, but if you go in expecting minecraft or just a mod pack you'll be disappointed.I wouldn't call it realistic but it is very authentic with most of its crafting systems and making progress takes way more time than minecraft.
>>729181586>>729181634what's the online community like?
>>729181747why? who cares? is the community being good or bad going to affect whether you enjoy the game or not? fool. I will crush you.
>>729181747Idk, check /vm/, probably always busy chiseling anime tiddies out of stone.
Had to stop playing because armor removed my deer girls massive titties
>>729181396its rather hard to be a worse game than minecraftvintage story manages to be a great game
>>729181396it's not a very good game desu, but it's the bones of one>basically 0 content, everything you do in game is basically just chores to... store more ingots and food better>lore is pathetically barebones and also spread across 1000 different books that have at most a paragraph in them(actually relevant to the worlds lore being optional as half of them are generic medieval world journal entries that have no relevance to the rust or other shit happening specifically in vintage story)>all you get to do end game is.... chisel>my captcha expired typing this bullshit out
>>729181396I liked playing it solo and having the option to open my server to my friend or the whole world. What's the pvp experience like?
>>729181747it's average
>>729181396it's shit, minecraft is 100 times better having variety of enemies. mechanics, transportationsthe only thing this game has over minecraft is voxel chiselling
>>729181947why do captcha before you finish your post?
>>729181947>looking for lore in a game like vs or minecraftyou're just a nigga in the world. make your own lore
>>729182168retardationthat being said the game is very mod friendly, me and my friends have over 100 mods and there isn't any conflicts aside from "oh this doesn't have a patch to work with X, but there's a work around by turning it into a vanilla item" that some modders do, sometimes you're just shit out of luck if they don't have an option for thati'm farming flowers and making soap/dye with my current set up>>729182257the lore is advertised, the only thing to do other than survive is explore ruins of the previous society and find books
>vintage has no content!>knapping, crafting, metallurgy, smithing, mining, cooking, pickling, alcohol making, farming, tanning, animal husbandry, steelmaking and dungeons is no content!>t. prefers the game where you reach end game in 10 minutes with nothing else to dohuh?
>>729181396It's fun until you try and get past the copper age, then it's annoying because you can't find the right fucking metalsIncrease the frequency of ores in world generation, trust me
>>729181396its okay but i have some issues with it that kills the enjoyment for me, for once the geologic autism, its so close but yet so far, second the biodiversity and the lack of herd management, third the everything plants fungi and mold, i could go on.
>>729181396it's for hyperautists unlike minecraft which is for just regular ones
this game has like 4 people who play it.
>>729181396Its a good game, it has it's own progression speed but if you wanna buildfag, you will need like 2 mods to make it more bearable.
>729182430>make more ingots and store food better>besides food, metal and leather are the only things that matter>you can literally get to iron age in less than 5 hours and into steel in 20 hours depending on how good your seed is and how much steel you consider a success>writes down metallurgy, smithing, and steelmaking all as separate things even though they are the same thing
>>729181396Honestly? The former, but I still enjoy parts of it.The parts where it falls short fall very hard though. One of my least favorite ones was acquiring seeds for farming. Considering there was a hard trading requirement later in the game for a mount, that there wasn't a seed vendor was just so fucking retarded.Just strip every wild plant and hope that the not fully grown ones actually give you a seed or wait for an entire year and come back to this random spot in the wilderness. This and the fact that the easiest and best building material was fucking dirt pissed me off. No point making individual clay roof tiles. Fuck that noise. The different rocks were cool and there are more plants and decorations but the core gameplay is very flawed.
I've been itching to play but want to wait for the procgen dungeons in the next update. Might take a while, the last major update wasn't that long ago so maybe I'll play the last plague while waiting, or I'll just burn out before it drops >>729181747It's bretty gud, not infested by too many retards and the mod scene is great
>>729183861You can get diamond gear in minecraft in minutes.
>>729182384>soapDoes it have a use?>>729181947>lore is pathetically barebonesWtf, it's pretty extensive compared to other survival games. It's well written, interesting and the story locations are dope. It's a solitary game, which every npc trader spells out to you. If you expect a steady stream of writing and lore comparable to a rpg you're confused about what type of game you're playing. Any more would hamper the feeling of being out in the wilderness, isolated and alone.Imo there are almost too many ruins.
Anyone know of any fairly chill servers?
>>729182116>minecraft is 100 times better having variety of enemiesSaarWhy you lie like the devil >>729182509Git gud, learn to prospect. I've never had issues finding ore for bronze or iron, just take samples while exploring. Lime, high nutrient soil and fire clay though...

I wish it had a cobblemon or pixelmon equivalent so fucking badpokemon crafting autism...
>>729181396I played it for awhile then dropped it, everything is kind of a slog and a lot of the time you're just stuck waiting for things to happen, at first it's cool sculpting stuff out of clay and forging things with metal but after a while it just becomes a tedious task you have to do before you can do something fun
never played it but i heard there are faun, tell me about them are they friendly? can i have one in my base? are they cute?
>>729188082also, and this is important, do they play some kind of flute and dance?
finish your clay projects
>>729185389I don't get what you're trying to get to, both games can be "beaten" quickly if you focus on that. At the same time many people just put progression on the back-burner after they reach a certain point and start building shit.
>>729189735I'm getting to your asshole with my peanus weanus inside of course
it's alright, everything feels overbalanced and underpowered. I had more fun with it than minecraft, both solo and with friends. Some aspects are extremely grindy and downright tedious. But not as grindy as valheim. Chores aren't content, and there's not enough of the latter.I found the lore journals cringe and poorly written. Sanity and temporal storms are underbaked mechanics, and it's incredibly stupid how giant chunks of the world can be uninhabitable for no reason. Overall 7.8/10
I think it's a lot of fun. join us on /vm/! picrel weekend server just cleared resonance archive on the latest map.
>Go through tutorial>Craft a torch and campfire>It goes out within one nightBro, im not going through all that bullshit to make something that lasts 30 seconds lmao
>>729190609tell me about your server, since its 4chan related i can say nigger, cunt, faggot without someone shitting his pants? how autistic is it as a whole, like what mods etc?
>>729187016>basically nothing has changedThat's because tyrone the cuck relies heavily on mods now to fill his empty game, also he is planning on adding more butterflies :)
>>729191193Weekend server is themed to be fantasy TES lite this go around and is a FOMO restarting world whenever I feel like it. There are some nazi high elves who live in a giant swazi but other than that the community is small enough that the most you'll get is some ranting about whatever. The 2nd longtime 24/7 265 OG server is semi-active but barely modded and likewise no one cares as long as you aren't griefing for the most part. Most people are helpful because the community is small
>>729181396Yes and no.Its more focused on semi-realism and survival. Everything will take a lot longer than in minecraft, as even just getting an axe to fell trees is a multi-step process.>Get 2+ flint/sharpenable rock, and sticks.>Knap flint into the head.>then craft axe.Making a pick is harder.>Find 20 nuggets of copper (paning is easiest, but requires also finding a significant amount of sand/gravel, water, and is slow and kinda boring.)>Find clay and make Crucible and mold.>Fire mold and other clay items.>Make charcoal to have fuel that hits the right temp.>Cook the 20 nuggets to get enough copper to fill the mold.>Molded item now needs to cool to be picked up. (Hammered items can be crafted to skip cooling, but if held in an active slot as the raw, hot item, without tongs, will deal damage to you and be dropped.)Combat is mostly the same. But mobs will fuck you up. Very start of the game, wolves can 2-shot you. Armor makes this better, but doesn't ever really get you to four shot.I like it better, but it is a different game that's based on the same foundation. (It supposedly started as a mod.)They're slowly fleshing out vanilla. It has vehicles and mounts. (a boat and an elk atm) Next patch is adding some critters and more variety to stuff.
>>729181396I'm not playing again until they add rivers.
>>729181396Surely it's impossible to make a game worse than Minecraft
>>729191190Make clay bowls and get some animal fat and you can make oil lamps that last forever
>>729191610I'm a clueless retard running around so i'll get on that in about a couple of days I suppose, I did start right next to a merchant so I can chill with him while I figure stuff out
>>729181396It seems interesting but I don't like how enemies spawn on top of you on stormsI will get hypixel instead
>>729191190Torch is infinite unless you put it on a wall, then it lasts two days unless picked back up, which resets it to infinite.Oil Lamp (Fat + clay bowl) is infinite, but kinda crap.Candles (3 beeswax + 1 flax fiber in a cooking pot, will ruin the pot for food cooking) are infinite light, stack up to 9 in a tile for more illumination, and are an ingredient for lanterns, the best light source in game as of now.Lanterns take 2 glass panes, a candle, and a metal plate. Later on, you can use a gold or silver plate to make them slightly better light sources. But yes, it is a game of long term tasks.
>>729181396I like it, but I am upset at what it lacks. For instance, a fuckin loom so I can make my own clothes. Seems like it's an obvious addition, but no. Also the occasional bug. I think it's going places, I just wish the place it is right now was further down the road. Game is actually pretty spooky at night with the dark lighting. Cozy around a campfire.
>>729181396Someone explain the story or lore on the whole rust and cogs thing please. Why do we see spooky big creatures and cogs in the sky if sanity drops low and what happened to the world before that basically threw a fairly advanced civilization into becoming stone age cavemen?
>>729191754The game has a really steep learning curve, but most of the initial difficulty is gated behind clay stuff honestly. Once you get a cooking pot and an understanding of making meals, simply surviving aint so bad
>try it>got to basically just copper>give up>try it again like a year later>got to basically just copper>give up>try it once more this year>add rivers and mess around with the world gen for a few hours until I get something I like the look of>absolutely fucking hooked>literal wake up, sleep, shit, play game, repeat scenario, can't even remember how long I played for, couldn't keep track of the time>"why the fuck would i ever chisel" turns into "hmm i should go relieve basalt to trim the edges of my fire pillars">get pulled out of this trance by a bunch of anons wanting to play the new haven world>sort of lose all steam like a literal day before the ingame season changes to my first real winter because I just cant find enough time to put into itThe combat blows ass and the developers are slow as molasses, but that aside I'm 100% starting a new run in 2026 with /vm/ or friends.
>>729192092its shitty lgbtqeef bullshit, dont bother
>>729191190>these are the people that complain about "grind" in vs
>>729192564Powerful testimony. Can't wait to see you there!
I wish the devs weren't so lazy
>>729181396i've been playing it and am just about to go into my second winter. if you enjoy the survival aspect of minecraft (that 10-30 minutes it takes to throw together a dirt hovel, acquire food and basic tools) its pretty much that expanded on greatlyit's a little daunting to start and you have to do some reading to figure out prospecting and some other critical mechanics.apparently i got lucky with my first map; i settled probably 500 blocks from my spawn point, and have had EVERYTHING i needed within 1000k blocks of where i settled so far (even a few lucky surface borax deposits lol)the combat sucks and hunting is a pain in the ass, though. you will get randomly bodied by bears no matter how careful you are. the wildlife is more deadly than the monsters are
>>729182430not that I disagree but you are conflating mechanics with content
>>729181396>enjoy minecraft since like 2011>occasionally start new world, become village ruler, burn out>keep seeing VC vids but it looks a little too autistic for me so never try it>eventually click on a long form vid and i'm intrigued enough to finally buy>first world i make i put 100hrs in over the course of the month>beat archive and figure i need teamies to conscript for further content>buy gift copies for a couple of my minecraft buddies>they like it too, we play together sometimesI fucking love how easy this game is to mod and to host private servers. The game keeps steam pretty well untill iron i'd say, then it starts losing steam rather rapidly. Haven't even tried steel yet but it looks gay as fuck to make
is there a 4channel server?
>>729181396>what if we made making a campfire take 3 days irl the gameno thanks
Game is incredibly good imo. People might suggest that its mechanics are tedious, but in practice it becomes the opposite. You focus on small things and enjoy day-to-day life with daily tasks feeling fulfilling and fleshed out. Sitting at home in the winter, keeping warm, lighting the stove, baking your bread, going out to feed your animals, it all keeps you immersed and focused in the moment instead of a game like minecraft where you have a list of tasks you need to complete always in your mind to get your goal, gather reeds, make a cow farm, farm books, get an enchanting table, grind quartz for experience, enchant fortune on your pick, get full diamond, grind more quartz, enchant all your gear, and NOW you can play the game. All of these tasks are in your mind at the start of the game instead of just making any one of them immersive and compelling like VS does.
>>729194748its not gay as fuck there's not much use case for steel besides the basic tools.
>>729192092>Big brain inventor noble and his ecologist peasant friend punch a hole into another dimension>Inventor Nobel starts making robots using the dimensions power boosting a late medieval era society up the tech tree>Ecologist thinks it a bad idea>Using the other dimension for robots starts corrupting it into the rust world>Corruption starts leaking into the physical world and decaying everything in its path>Inventor Nobel does experiments on people to try and a way to fix everything>(you) are one of these test subjects>Inventor eventually finds a solution by making a massive machine>Machine kinda works is removing the corruption but in the process warps time and space remaking the world and tossing people from random eras across the new planet at different times>Other dimension remains fucked up and can still leak through but the corruption can to the same extentFrom there the game starts and the main pot is (you) surviving until you find ruins of the project and after beating that dungeon are led to the Ecologist Peasant who has become a immortal with half his body destroyed by the corruption. (you) and the ecologist work together to fix things once and for all AKA you do fetch quests for him.
>>729197029never played vintage story or minecraft for that matter; does the game play similarly to valheim? i've played that game before and enjoyed that
>>729197616>Inventor Nobel does experiments on people to try and a way to fix everything>(you) are one of these test subjects>Machine kinda works is removing the corruption but in the process warps time and space remaking the world and tossing people from random eras across the new planet at different timesproof of this? i thought jonas turning on the machine and the time fuckery that followed was what caused your character changing, and it tobias was the one who brought them back.
>>729198889Kind of, VS isn't as combat-centric and it's more based around the life side of things, but it shares a lot in common still I'd say. If you liked valheim you'd probably like VS, just don't expect big boss fights (there are some, but they're not the focus of the game)
>>729198889They're similar but both minecraft and vintage story are less objective oriented.
>>729181396Can I disables console commands like minecraft yet?
>>729181396new update dropped yet? Not touching this game until then.
