>>729186123People asked for PS3 Vesperia and Abyss remaster above everything else. Nobody wanted yet another Symphonia port for the Switch, nobody cared for Graces, nobody asked for Xillia and Xillia 2 to not be bundled, and we sure as fuck did not think Berseria of all things needed a remaster.Scamco posted pic related individually on the official Twitter and as of last week the total likes were:>Hearts 1.6k>Tempest: 1.7k>Arise: 1.9k>Legendia 2.2k>Innocence: 2.3k>Symphonia DotNW: 2.3k>Zesteria: 2.3k>Xillia (Jude): 2.3k>Xillia (Milla): 2.4k>Destiny 2: 2.8k>Rebirth: 2.8k>Graces: 2.9k>Berseria: 3.1k>Xillia 2: 3.3k>Destiny: 4.2k>Eternia: 4.2k>Symphonia: 4.9k>Phantasia: 5k>Vesperia: 6.7k>Abyss: 12kIf this doesn't tell you how much interest there is in Abyss, alongside the constant asking for it for years and last week being not only Tales' 30th anniversary but also Abyss' 20th, I don't know what might.

>>729187782>PS3 VesperiaAs soon as that came out literally nobody liked Vesperia anymore, japanese exclusivity saved it.
>>729188321there was a vocal minority of people mad the enemies actually fought back and there was an execution barrier do doing cool stuff instead of it being mindless juggleslop like graces and the ps4 games but it sits at an 80+ or equivalent and sold more then the original game so by literally any metric suits care about it was a success >>729187782>symphonia 2 got as many upvotes as xilliadid they post that one first so it soaked up symphonia love or is there a secret audience of emil x marta fans lurking in the shadows

I think zoomers (or "yns" as they're called now) would get a kick out of this game since it's about a nun falling in love with a guy who has the mind of a 7 year old.
>>729186123They aren't cancelling any remaster already in development, would be stupid and make them lose more money. This project will be short lived, tho, yes.
>In addition, nowadays we have to pay attention to things like "If we don't do this, it will affect the Metacritic score" and "What is the ethical aspect of this?", but when we were making "Abyss," it was an era when we could have just pushed through those things by saying "What are you talking about? ">Nowadays, development costs more, and we live in an age where failure in game development is even more unacceptable. That's whywe're very cautious about general opinions . However, at that time, people were a little more tolerant of what we wanted to create...I think it was an era when we could trust our intuition and think, "If Professor Sanejima wants to go with this, then let's go with it. ">If this scenario had come up for the first time now, I might have made a different decision.Games are never gonna be the same, bros.

>>729189510>"games aren't being censored chud, developers get to make what they want just as before"I want my Akzeriuth child drowning in poison in front of me or I'll riot.
>>729187782Abyss is overrated
>>729189770Wish granted, but now Luke will constantly whine about committing suicide more than he did in the original game.
>>729186123Remasters and remakes were never needed. Just the other day i finished playing Berseria (i started it before the announcement) and you know what? It is fine. The only thing that bothered me about it was the inventory management. You get too many useless weapons, armors and accessories and have to constantly disassemble and sell stuff. That´s it.
>>729190332Abyss is underrated. Should be as well known as the likes of FFVII and Persona 5.
>>729191838Maybe it's my nostalgiagoggles but Luke not knowing what to do with his life after he found out he's a clone is good writing, since he has a child's mind he equals dying to making up for his mistake at Akzeriuth. It's a super black and white way of looking at it which children usually do.
>>729190332Every game in this series is overrated. Even the really bad ones.
>>729189510this is a lot of cope for>people used to really like our games, then they stopped after we explicitly said we're not making games like that anymore because they're too expensive and would rather make unreal engine jank with weird drama like the alisha stuff in xilliajust make a game that's good again instead of whatever the fuck arise is and the metacritic score won't matter. hope this helps chief. nobody cared about yuri oggling judith and murdering people or rita punching kids and being a smelly dyke in the vesperia remaster despite that game outselling the original so objectively more pearlclutchers were looking at it
>>729186123Maybe they shouldn't have made the Switch versions of every single one worse than the original. The only one I bought was Vesperia since every single one after that was an absolute fucking shitshow.
>Tales of the Uncbyss
>>729192561luke has great writing, the problem is that nobody else in abyss does besides guy and most of his serious scenes are in hidden sidequests so he spends most of the game a gag character that exists to look cool and do nothing.the entire game is the most competent and together people in the entire planet fumbling the ball constantly leaving the 7 year old to get shit done as they act like 14 year olds who read a philosophy book for the first time. the characters even point out to van that his entire plan makes no sense because either replicas aren't part of the score so the score isn't absolute or they are in the score and what he's doing is preordained anyway and all he can say is>nuh uhbefore powering up to final boss mode
>>729192561That's exactly what it is, and both Guy and Tear tell him as much later on; how he tries to speedrun his redemption so hard he goes from having too much ego to too little. Speaks big about dying to redeem himself, then is scared shitless of doing so in the Tower of Rem, then ultimately understands there's no inherent meaning to having been born and that he just *is*, and that's just fine and as important as any other life. God I adore Abyss.
TALES OF HEBEPHILLIA
>>729192907Neither Yoshito Higuchi, Takumi Sanejima nor Kenji Anabuki worked on Arise.
Is Tales of Symphonia one of the weaker games in the series? Is there a best one to start with?
>>729193945Best 2D to start with would most likely be Eternia, maybe PSX Phantasia if you wanna go with the OG. Best 3D would either be Symphonia, Abyss or Vesperia.Symphonia is... weird. For ages it was always seen as a top 3 Tales, still is in some circles, but in my opinion it's a "you had to be there" kind of game to truly understand why people claim it's as amazing as it is. It was also a big JRPG in the Gamecube days, so a lot of people grew up with it. The game's good, and the blueprint for all 3D Tales going forward which the likes of Abyss, Vesperia and Graces refined. I just think the story and characters, as presented in the game, are rather simple comparatively. Lots of cliches, power of friendship, church bad, that kinda thing while other games either play with the expectation or subvert it. If you know you're getting into that kinda story, then by all means start with Symphonia that way future titles you might play will also be upgrades on the mechanical side of things.
>>729193512yeah they didhttps://www.mobygames.com/person/147722/yoshito-higuchi/https://www.mobygames.com/person/226860/kenji-anabuki/https://www.mobygames.com/person/226857/takumi-miyajima/2/3 on xillia as well, the game that killed this IP. it's a stupid argument anyway, it doesn't matter what people they get working on it if those people are either mismanaged or just have bad ideas and nobody to challenge them anymore because "dude they're the guy who did X in game Y"
>>729194357> Lots of cliches, power of friendship, church bad, that kinda thing while other games either play with the expectation or subvert it.symphonia subverts literally all of these though, it just also goes "but here's why these things are still good" in the end instead of being masturbatory and depressing like most subversions tend to be.only real thing holding symphonia back is only like 3 and a half party members are actually fun to play as and the dungeon puzzles will either make you go "wow cool way to add variety" or make you depressed
>>729194865>producerSo not a dev>Beyond the DawnSo not Arise but the Expansion developed two years later
>>729195065>or make you depressed
>>729195184ironically this is one of the few that's actually a puzzle instead of just "use sorcerer ring here" or block pushing
