Why do you always kill gods in JRPGs?
>>
deep down we all know the demiurge is a piece of shit
>>
>Not in my games!
>>
>>729188703
You don't. That's just a meme.
You only do in some JRPGs.
>>
God is an asshole. Only christcucks pretend he's a good guy.
>>
>>729188703
How else do you make a finale that's worth the 100+ hours of playtime?
>>
Wouldn't feel the same if the final boss was some random nobody like a gas station attendant or something of the sort.
>>
Most JRPG stereotypes are either completely false, or only apply to Final Fantasy.

Why did Square Enix chase trends instead of sticking to what made them successful in the first place?
They sunk their own company trying to chase a player base that never would play their games while neglecting the people who supported them for years.
>>
>>729189020
They publish a shitton of low budget RPGs with standard turn based gameplay. What do you want them to do?
>>
Sephiroth wasn’t God
>>
>>729188912
Yeah, imagine if a random gas station attendant from the very beginning of the game that you forgot about completely would turn out to be like Goddess Izanami that you must defeat. That game would be so fucking ass.
>>
>>729189080
and yet they can't make the one franchise that made SE's name Turnbased.
That's all fans want and SE aren't delivering so they went to the competition instead, they went to Sandfall for their game Exp33 instead.
>>
>>729189080
>What do you want from them
To make FF turnbased. HELLO?
>>
>>729188703
Because Japs were harassed for centuries by catholic missionaries to the point they had to outlaw them, got nuked into the dirt twice so a protestant nation purely as a flex, and experienced the worst terrorist attack in their history at the hands of a christcuck cult.
All things considered, they go pretty easy on christcucks, only targeting the organized parts of the religion like corrupt bishops or abstract ideas non-applicable to real life like god or the demiurge. All things considered you'd think there would be a lot more viciousness in their critiques.
>>
>>729189020
To be fair they fell for the PS5 exclusivity meme and PCchads had to wait more than a year to play FF16. By that time people knew the game fucking sucks.
>>
>>729189020
Enjoyed E33. Was enjoying FF16 too, but performance was garbage so I couldn't finish it even though I wanted to.

Good point, a lot of it fell apart for FF16 not just Turnbased but I think Exp33 did everything FF16 lacked.
It had a party system.
It had rpg mechanics with plenty of different weapons to find and upgrade.
It had a camp you could rest at.
It had an Overworld with a 'mount' that could be upgraded to fly like an airship.
It had amazing music that took it beyond generic classical.
It was an original story and didn't rip off other i.p.s (ff16 ripped off Game of Thrones and previous FF games like FF14) Exp33 was original through and through in it's story.
It had exploration and rewarded you for going off the beaten track.
It had minigames.
There's much, much more Exp33 had that FF16 should have had which is why to me it's the real spiritual successor in all but name to the Final Fantasy franchise.

>>
>>729188703
Arent most JRPG writers Gen X? must be the edgy rebellious response to western religion at the time. Now religion isnt such a big deal so those stories havent aged well and are now a relic of the past.
>>
>>729189020
What made them successful was chasing trends. They made FF chasing DQ and copying D&D. The most profitable FF game is 14, which was chasing the MMO trend.

>the one franchise that made SE's name Turnbased.
Which half? The Enix half made their name with DQ, which is still turn based. The Square half made their name with FF7 which was an atb game, which is an early indication of their willingness to slowly move the series more and more towards real time.

Millennial writing!

The USA is constantly teetering on the edge of nuclear war because a bunch of christcuck boomers think Jesus is going to be reborn in some desert shithole nobody would care about otherwise.

Yes, it is. If America goes nuclear, you do too. Sorry buddy.

How do you make an epic final boss in a fantasy setting without making it less impactful than some other random monster or boss you fought before? Either you make it personal for the main characters, or you escalate the conflict until you're fighting gods or equivalent aliens/machines/creatures. Your pic related game fits into the first category where the impact comes from it being personal for the main characters. When you fight the last boss you already fought a different version of him that was summoning black holes, and already fought the act 2 boss who was ripping holes into reality, so there was nothing he could do to wow you anymore even without considering the dog shit balance where you might one shot him. You're fighting a god but it doesn't feel like it.

I don't properly understand the Japanese relationship with religion. They don't seem hostile to spirituality at all, and yet they make games where the objective is just to murder everything holy constantly and seem to think nothing of it.

It doesn't seem to come from a place of resentment and it doesn't seem to be edgelord shit. Maybe it's just acceptable because it's totally divorced from Japanese culture and aesthetics in their mind?
>>
>>729188703
That's a French RPG, though.
>>
>>729194990
Still more JRPG than any JRPG made in the last 15 years
>>

cozy jrpgs like Rhapsody
>>
>>729189020
It's fucking surreal seeing E33 look like an actual FF game while FF16 is just a DMC clone.

Pokemon first 2 gens. I've heard the atelier series is like that too.

the human spirit yearns for freedom
god, especially if hes cruel, acts as a barrier to that
these games are just big determinism vs true free will arguments

Doesn't the Emperor in FF2 explicitly steal the thrones of both Heaven and Hell, requiring both the living heroes and the dead to vanquish him simultaneously?

>got nuked into the dirt twice so a protestant nation purely as a flex

Anon, the Japanese admiralty and military command was more than willing to commit the rest of the population to fighting America to the bloody end out of a sense of honor than admit defeat. They even had plans to try to petition the Soviets for support to continue fighting, and the only reason that plan fell through was the Soviets were starting to invade them as well. Then the bombs fell and it became abundantly clear that total surrender wasn't a suggestion anymore.
>>
>>729202595
The creator goddess who created all the people you see for most of the game.

>>729200986
>>729189116
If you're fighting some super powerful guy who looks like a stereotypical piece of art depicting God, even though you're not actually fighting God it will still feel like you are. Which contributes to this feeling of fighting God in every jrpg.
>>
>>729194610
Gods in Shinto are basically nature spirits who might be good or bad, as it often is with animism. The head god is just the most powerful or most respected nature spirit. That's how they treat the Christian God.
>>
>>729203224
That's a dumb way to see things but ok
>>
>>729188703
In Japan, everything has a god. There are millions of them. A god for each concept, a god of a mountain, a god of a specific toilet. Killing one god is about as impactful as stepping on a roach.
>>
>>729203224
Not a god/goddess by any means. Just a woman besieged by guilt and despair living in her own head and "using" to avoid real life pain. Perceiving her as a god ignores the fragility and hubris only a human could embody.
>>
>>729188703
satan, we kill satan
>>

>Not a god/goddess by any means.
Literally created every person you see in the game, during her fight she rips open reality among other things. I don't see how she isn't a god. And by being both one of the gods but also being birthed as a common human, Maelle is Jesus.
