I've never played this series but I've heard these two are the best ones. I only have time to get into one of them, so which do you recommend?

If you're really time-crunched, V is the one that is closer to a game while IV is the foundation to an autism nation builder that's like a janker Paradox game. Both have different appeals.

Is this actually true or just a meme answer?

Play iv if you want to listen to the negro african main menu track every time you start up the game

No he's right. Civ V and everything after play like board games.
>>
I just want an interface that scales to modern resolutions. Only reason I don't play 4 more.

5 is beloved because it was lots of peoples first game and the presentation is really good. Civ 4 has deeper more empire building mechanics and is overall a better game

>like a janker Paradox game.
Pure ignorance. Paradox games aren't even that deep.
>>

civ 4 is a much better game plus it was the last civ game to have proper mod support and it shows
>>
>>729200750
Civ 5 is where the series starts to get dumbed diwn for the masses
>>

Both are good and the peaks of the series
No mods? Civ IV
Willing to explore and use mods, especially QOL suff and to add features? Civ V
There you go
