what type of horror games did the most damage to the genre?
>>
creepypasta then Mascot then analog, Liminal ""horror"" for faggots was also doing damage for a bit there.

Horror went from being horror to stuff for little fags on youtube and reddit to make lore videos about.

The second one is not scary, if anything the third one is scarier.

alright and now draw them all with boobs

Mascot horror as a whole was a mistake.

>>729202352
The only scary creature are the xenomorph and the angel statues from Dr. Who

Mascot horror. As profoundly fucking stupid as "liminal horror" and "analog horror" are (ooh an empty room and a VHS filter! scaaaaaaary!), no one gives nearly enough of a shit about them for them to have done any real damage.

Whatever you consider Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

>Started a huge movement in the genre towards stealth horror, where a majority of the game is spent solving minor puzzles, running from enemies, then hiding in corners for 30 seconds at a time
>Led to horror games having way less interactivity as a whole once devs realized they could make what is the equivalent of a horror-themed rollercoaster, where the player has little control over anything like item management, health, or deciding whether to fight back
>It was also one of the first to blow up on Youtube, leading to devs focusing in on making games more jumpscare-heavy and shorter overall to appeal to people making videos that wanted a bite-sized experience with lots of reaction potential
>Arguably, the combination of shorter games, jumpscare heavy content, less player agency, and a focus on social media appeal (see Youtube or streaming) contributed to horror starting to try to appeal to younger audiences as well, which ties into mascot horror that started another wave of trash

It's not even an outright bad game. I still vastly prefer Penumbra, but it's alright. Hell, the devs even self-corrected with The Bunker by giving the player tons of control, resource management, and the constant panic of trying to decide between running, hiding, or shooting.

But Amnesia for sure decimated a lot of what made the horror genre good.

Streamer bait

>number 4 could have been fnaf2
>scott instead gave the exact same mechanic to 8 characters and made you babysit the other 2 all night

i will forever seethe about that. ruin was the closest thing we've ever gotten to that since and even then it was ruined by the shoehorned-in characters from the books.

i've masturbated to both of these creatures so i can vouch for how scary they are

I like the crack fiend monster and the stoner dragon.
