>let's just end our highly acclaimed and successful video game series at the height of its popularity so that our company eventually goes bankrupt What were they thinking?
Rocksteady were out of new ideas for what to do in this series, you could tell by the slow progression down to non-puzzles and things that did nothing but check "do you remember you have a batmobile" all over the game. Unironically the canucks working on Origins were doing more creative level and puzzle design while simply modding the Arkham City engine.
>>729206753They could've found ways to continue it regardless
>>729207207Batman Beyond. There, I fixed it.
>>7292072074 games are more than enoughthey should've bamham'd another capeshit series
>>729208485Every game was copying Bamham's homework back then, it wouldn't have worked, just like all those Bamham clones didn't work. Bamham's combat was designed to make you feel like batman, the way he effortlessly strings combos together with honed reactions gadgets were all there to heighten the fantasy of being Batman. It just doens't translate to Superman or Spiderman no matter how much they tried to make that square peg fit in that round hole. The death of Bamham seems inevitable now, yet another Bamham would have seen serious fatigue as players went from linear corridors, to open world, to bat-mobile, there really wasn't anywhere left to go, the Batman fantasy was complete.
>>729205869>What were they thinking?getting paid by clueless publishers like wb to do nothing for 8-10 years
They wanted to make a superman game but WB forces them to do suicide squad. Not saying superman would have been good but would have probably been a million times better than the shit we got.
Why didn't they do a Superman game again?
>>729208981yeah you're right. I forgot we got quite a few clones during its peakand the clones peaked with mad max
>>729209271Superman is too strong to make traditional forms of gameplay compelling.
>>729205869Fuck lads, the Red Hood DLC was so good, and I wish they could have expanded upon the idea and given us an edgy/2KOOL4YOU/tryhard Red Hood game just like Marvel had for Punisher in 2005, where instead of fighting bad guys, you are straight up eliminating them, and finishing them off in the most brutal and heinous ways possible.I guess the rise of incel shootings in the 2010s eliminated any chance of that ever happening.
Major devs already left the company during knight developmentI think they knew it was going to end, bet there were lots of issues.Too bad really rocksteady pre woke era were kino. Id take another bamhamslop over sweet baby inc induced woke dei slop that suicide squad was any day
>>729208981No Man's Land was the answer, making the map an ever changing thing.>aftershocks knocking down buildings>territory shifting between gangs changing the strongpoints>being able to influence the territory shifts by defending blueboy strongholds or taking out one or both sides of gang wars>supplies are limited (can find satellite bat caves to restock)>roving bosses for gangless guys like clayface, manbat, etc>court of owls replacing the hair metal guy and lex plots of the books>can have new game+ be batkek stuff with crazier environments, harder enemies
>>729207659Batman Beyond doesn't have the broad appeal and recognition of Bruce Wayne Batman. Everyone knows Bruce, only a small subset of millennials still know and care about Terry McGinnis Batman. A game like Bamham needs to sell millions.
>>729207207Only way I could see it going is Beyond or using one of Bruce's proteges and that Gotham Knights game did the latter and failed. Another prequel may have worked
>>729209271Warner was still astroturfing the suicide squad
>>729209817I just want to fly around cyberpunk gotham. I don't care who's in the suit.
>>729209271DEI was mandated to take over in 2014
>>729208981Games are still copying Bamham. The new wolverine game has bamham combat and bamham detective vision
>>729205869Paul Dini wrote the first two games and was supposed to write for Knight, with Hush joining Scarecrow, but he was let go and Hush was given a much smaller role in favor of Poor Man's UTRH.
>>729209756I think you're overestimating how much normalfags care about who's in the suit though. If it was just>Hey, we made Arkham 4I think that's all most people would have needed to hear. I don't think the branding has held up over time though.
>>729209271Because nothing good happens.
I grew up on the bamham games, I played the first one with my dad when I was like 5, I'd be there day 1 for a bamham 4 regardless, that said Its been 17 years since asylum its basically in remake/reboot territory now. Lotta nostalgia for those games in guys my age.
>>729206753The next logical step was Arkham Beyond. Terry would play differently, with different gadgets and villains, and Neo-Gotham is a much more vertically-oriented city with different traversal. But someone high up decided going with the dead end Suicide Squad IP in a live service shooter format was a better idea. There was literally like a 3% chance of that turning out well, even if the game was good.
>>729210462To be honest, BAMHAM is the only good feeling of what being a superhero is like, with fast reflexes and taking down hordes of enemies, and I don't know how you can improve and move beyond/past it. It's like Vampire the Masquerade being the pinnacle of what modern nights Vampire storytelling can be like, the peak. They knocked it out of the park with the Batman series.Unless you're going for a hero like Red Hood and Punisher, which was mentioned above, who mostly focus on guns.
>>729209717I just played Cyberpunk for the first time and that city size is about what I was expecting for a proper Gotham.A proper Gotham map where there are about 20 types of crimes you can intervene in, 20 minor villain side-quest chains, 2-3 major villains as chief antagonists, Joker is present but doesn't factor into specific storylines (he's not a direct antagonist).Main story is oblique enough to be unique to the game like the Phantasm or something.More GTA than Banham.Arkham City perfected, though with some loss on the original, Asylum's gadget+stealth based arena showdowns and this game would have none of that. Just a basic toolset that can be used in combat and detective work.Game can function as GTA: Online - Gotham where you can larp as a nurse or bus driver, but you can also do crime or be a cop. Coop quests bring in known characters. Batman randomly shows up sometimes more like a fun easter egg. As a separate mode.
>>729207207>They could've found ways to continueThat's not how it works brainlet, Rocksteady are developers, they don't control Projects or what happens to the IP.
I don't even want them to continue the series because Kevin is dead and Hamill swore off voicing Joker because of it. Roger Smith and Troy baker did okay in Origins, but they were just doing impressions of the originals. They should make a new game that isn't tied to the Arkham games and let them rest.
>>729210762Why can’t you people just let Beyond rest in peace?
>>729205869The original plan was a Superman game but then it got scrapped because the higher ups wanted multiplayer live service slop.
you can be on a roll and then fail, that's actually likely the next outcome
>>729208981I’m of the opposite end, I actually think the combat in the BamHam sucked because Batman was dancing and flopping all over the place. There’s not a lot of weight to the character because of it, and even worse is that it felt the same across Batman, Robin and Nightwing.
>>729209438Superman gets shot with a kryptonite bullet at the beginning of the game and has to slowly regain his powers over the course of the story.
>>729209438Nah that was never the problem. There's plenty of enemies that can beat the shit out of Superman. His power level varies wildly from story to story, they could have easily made it work in the story. The ACTUAL problem with Superman is limitless flight. How do you design a modern AAA open world game with that? It hasn't been done really. Trivializes the level/world design and traversal. Then you have to account for the control scheme and camera. The whole thing's a nightmare.
>>729211467Because we got three short seasons of it and it deserved so much more.
>>729211467It's a cool setting for a game and it would change up the formula enough to justify being made.
>>729205869the devs all left after this game
>>729205869How come people never mention how terribly written these games are?Only the first one was written by a real writer and holy fuck does it show. The plot of City and Knight are fucking retarded nonsense and Batman is written like shit in it, but nobody seems to care.
>>729212617Probably because the awfulness of the plots get lost on a lot of people. To them, more is better. Seeing more references to comic stories that they vaguely heard about is better.>Only the first one was written by a real writer and holy fuck does it show. The first one sucked since it’s just a boss rush with very little range coming from Bruce, it’s very much his VA going on autopilot like in latter BTAS episodes. The best story was Origins because it wasn’t tied to the Arkham games.
>>729210762Why was WB so obsessed with Suicide Squad?
A real reason that the Arkhamverse was better than attempts with other superheroes is that, short of MAYBE Spider-Man, Batman has the best, largest, and most diverse villains and side characters. How many other superheroes have enough villains to fill one, let alone several triple A games?
>>729213327Literally none beyond Spider-Man and (collectively) the X-Men.Outside of that you get Wolverine, everyone that isn't Sabertooth is at best a B level character
>>729213131>Seeing more references to comic stories that they vaguely heard about is better.Hmm.>The first one sucked since it’s just a boss rush with very little range coming from BruceHard disagree. Asylum has a lot of bosses but Origins has like 3 times as much and lacks the carefully built atmosphere Asylum has. Also Conroy is pretty expressive as Batman on this game (and basically only this out of the 3). There's no Bruce Wayne segment for him to flex like in City, but since Batman isn't written like a retard, he covers a range of expressions, even joking at times with Oracle. Not a big fan of Roger Craig Smith's Batman voice
>>729214065>but Origins has like 3 times as much and lacks the carefully built atmosphere Asylum has.Not even, Gotham City in winter is peak atmosphere.>wide range of emotions Like I said, Conroy is on autopilot. His peak was during the early, early seasons of BTAS before the character simply became Batman. Plus Bruce talking to a comm system doesn’t hit as hard as actually having Alfred helping you in the Batcave.
>>729210785there's a lot you could do with the swashbuckling stealth/hitnrun half of the game. right off the bat(heh) you could attempt to solve the gargoyle problem, having a get out of jail free card that makes mindless cheese too easy.
>>729214275>Not even, Gotham City in winter is peak atmosphere.Snow isn't atmosphere it's just weather.>His peak was during the early, early seasons of BTASYeah, I don't disagree but Conroy outside of his peak is still a better Batman voice than everyone else
>>729205869Didn't these dumbass writers copy Nolan and kill Batman at the end? I forgot
>>729211790this. the most recognized incarnation of superman at least among the middle of the road nerds who would buy the game is the dcu/justice league where he gets staggered by electricity and has to struggle to pick up semi-trucks. only problem is making flight work in a simulation without cinematic convention moderating it at all times.
>>729208981>just like all those Bamham clones didn't work.I liked Spider-Man. The combat is more different than it seems at a glance. But stealth is a huge part of what makes the Arkham games good, and the Spider-Man games never really delivered on that.
>>729209271Don't even start this shit
>>729205869First, their bosses are WB, so they're infamously idiotic. Bosses demanded live service. Also, key leadership got Metooed, and they hired SBI to fill in. they chose to not retain good talent like Paul Dini.>>729209717based as fuck,. throw in the nemesis system, which WB had the rights to.>>72920898150 years of batman comics to draw from.God of war Wonder woman.
>>729206753They have to be fucking retarded to run out of ideas with so many decades of Batman comics as a source material.Any autist in /co/ could have drafted them plentitud of ideas.
>>729215464Wonder Woman doesn't sell. She's way more popular as a concept than as a character. As much as the ham planets and homo fans of WW can bitch, it's a very literal fact that she was a never a huge draw and there's not that many good stories written for herThere's reason whenever you mention good Batman, Superman, Spiderman stories you have a plethora of different runs and novels to go through but with Wondy it's always the Perez/Wolfman run and literally nothing else.
>>729209271Too boring to make a game about
I LIEK CHOCOLATE MILK
>>729215867I liked the first born storyline.
>>729211467Dude, Batman Beyond is one of those rare cases where an incredibly picky fanbase open-arm welcomed a radical shift in tone, aesthetic and even successor. Because Batman Beyond was created with love and care despite the corporate mandate from WB execs being "we want teenage Bruce Wayne."The series has received nothing but five-second references since its third season ended. 25 years of "hey do you guys remember Terry?" The video game plans by Rocksteady? Demolished during the table-discussion phase for Suicide Squad. The animated movie suggested after the success of Spider-Verse? Squashed. Batman Beyond constantly gets fucked for no good reason.
>>729207207prequels are the way to go, imo. each respective games take place in the span of a single night across Batman’s 10 years career, so there’s a whole lot of ground you can still cover. too bad Arkham Shadow blew some of that potential already, but there’s still room for more.
>>729211790>How do you design a modern AAA open world game with that? It hasn't been done really. Trivializes the level/world design and traversal. Then you have to account for the control scheme and camera.Spider Man 2 figured this out over twenty years ago. His swinging is almost equitable to flying.
>>729218896Hell, Spiderman 1 on the same console is literally just flight with how primitive the swinging in that game was.
>>729211467it was good and cool, damn you
>>729218569Hate prequels. Just wheel spinning. Also the bamham games were originally supposed to be an "any batman" kind of thing without gay ass origin stories and set timelines. They RUINED it.
>>729209438Oh please, he was getting his ass beat in the old DC cartoons, they don't have to portray the guy as a god in everything he's in.
>>729205869They had the dignity to just end it instead of trying to milk it forever, as is typical for franchises. The publisher then dug it up, however
>>729205869It would have been better left dead
>>729215135Yes and no. It ends with Bruce blowing up the manner and continuing to be Batman through the use of Scarcrows fear toxin so thugs can't tell if it's really Batman or some hell monster doing the policing so as to keep the "fear of the Bat" alive. Then by the time of Suicide Squad he's convinced to come out of hiding by the Justice League and continue working as Batman again with everyone aware of who he is, were he was captured by Brainiac had a clone of him created then killed by Harley Quinn and after 4 season pass updates is revealed to be alive and rescued. Kinda shit desu.
>>729215863You'd think all the years spent complaining about Asylum's bosses would've clued people in that, yes, they were total retards since the start
