Why don't we get games that look like this anymore ??
what about that is supposed to look good
>>729210484Because games like that existed due to a hardware constraints. As hardware got better the games and what they could do and how they looked got better. So now anything that looks or plays like that is going to be a specific artistic/mechanical choice rather than out of necessity, and it would be harder to capture the same soul or feeling again. Especially since those making it probably never actually experienced the original arcade games they are trying to ape.

>>729210484>No hardware constraints necessitating creative solutions to fit vision into what the technology could do.>No super talented developers looking to express themselves>Demands of current generation gaming demand extremely large budgets and large teams; too many cooks in the kitchen and a lack of room for individual demonstrations of ingenuity or creativity. Everything is designed by committee, and even the most minute changes need a dozen rubber stamps to even get the green light.>Highly risk-averse modern corporate culture necessitates imitation; no room for anything that isn't derivative - and therefore already proven to work. Controversy and innovation are to be avoided; there's the prevailing school of thought that all audiences want are what they've seen before, repackaged in ways that are only slightly different, but not too different so as to feel unfamiliar.>Finance and Marketing obtaining institutional power within game companies as gaming has become more profitable and increasingly popular with mainstream audiences. This is the problem with every industry. Finance people and marketing people should not have undue influence over product decisions, but they do, and it's leading to the sorry state of affairs we're in right now.
