Didn't a new wizardry just come out?
You don't get a lot of dungeon crawlers nowadays because the genre demands that the game must be hard and unforgiving, difficulty which turns most casuals off.

The girls are cute and the battle system is way better. Give it a try. Its already way better than 2hu lab2 which was already pretty good. Merry Christmas anons.

I mean that'd depend on a lot of factors. Like presuming there's a reason for monsters to exist in the toward and for there to be a gradient between their "levels".
Also if a level 99 monster were to break out a outpost at the top of the dungeon would be just as if not more important.

A cold war bunker would probably make more sense. Some government in the soviet block threw a bunch of money at some questionable research but after a couple decades all the people involved are gone and the current government is just as horrified of what they find as any outside observer.

Yeah I guess. It's just that WW2 bunkers are a common trope in japanese non fantasy RPGs, but soviet bunkers sound even cooler.

Yes, but with a "balcony", enormously huge one in the middle of the tower. When players reach it, they can build their own estate there, customize it however they want. There they can spend time with companions, enjoy cozy atmosphere of the estate, admire views of the city below and the upper part of the tower above...

It's fun to treat the dungeon like a very long extended expedition. You trek as far as you can go, chart what you can (and yes you should be drawing your own map with graph paper) and then get out before it's too late. You repeat as you get stronger, more confident, and become a master of exploration.

Breath of Fire V does this perfectly. The problem with going up instead of down is there is a visual representation of the end. When you're going down you have no idea how deep it could go, if you are close to your goal and whether you can get to it. BoFV gives you your depth at all times but also has a counter to game over working against you so you really don't know if you will make it.

WW2 bunkers are a popular trope because they're real and you can visit them. There's an intact nazi tunnel network in Poland that runs for miles underground, basically intact because it was abandoned without a fight. Polish govt turned it into a tourist attraction.

Diablo 1 is literally a roguelite. The genre is very popular.

Being able to freely warp back to town at any moment kind of defeats the purpose of the dungeon.

Ehrgeiz was such a gem, who the fuck thinks to stick a full-on dungeon crawler in a fighting game with final fantasy characters?
>>
>>729225378
True. Labyrinth of Galleria did it but everyone hated the 3000 floor tower. Not me though.

all red-blooded human men have the spirit of exploration and discovery tucked away in their soul somewhere. Sometimes a good enough videogame can draw that out and inspire you to follow in the steps of your ancestors

That's boring.
I want to explore a ginormous chasm filled with wonders and dangerous creatures where the deeper you go the more insane you become and can never go back up (unless some trickery).

I love this aesthetic.

part of the reason I'm working to lose weight and get in shape is so I can do urban exploration on decrepit/abandoned buildings and different areas. Probably won't happen until late 2026, but it's the goal

Ys I and Ys Origin if you replace the dungeon with a tower. DMC 3 also does this, actually, probably quite a few more.

the real problem is that with time these dungeons started being procedurally generated and just felt like the devs were deliberately wasting your time with content they hadn't even made themselves. there's nothing i hate more than that feeling of what's even the point of this
