Recommend me some Nippon-core games. Meaning, games that ostensively feature Japanese mythology and iconography, typically(but not necessarily) drawing from around the Edo period. Importantly, this ver specifically excludes anime style, both in art and general sensibilities. Some of the more well-known examples of what I'm talking about:>Okami>Muramasa>Sekiro
I'd say UNKO TECHNICA is a quintessential japanese game, and I don't mean ironically or derogatory.
>>729218572 If you're veering away from anime aesthetics but still want that heavy Japanese cultural backbone, you ought to look into these:>Kuon - PS2 survival horror drenched in Heian-era weirdness and esoteric Shinto horror. Think fatal frame but less camera, more sutras and kimonos soaked in malice. Criminally overlooked.>Shinobido: Way of the Ninja - Sorta janky Tenchu spiritual follow-up but has a strong feudal flavor, less stylized than Sekiro and more immersed in dirty, pragmatic shinobi life.>Nioh (1&2) - Might straddle the anime line in the enemy/banner effects department, but overall it’s built from the bones of Sengoku mythology with a deep reverence for yokai lore.>Tengai Makyo: Ziria - If you can tolerate some old-school trappings, it’s a fascinating reinterpretation of Japanese myth through a strange, satirical lens. Not straight-laced, but not anime-ridden either. Also, if you can get your hands on it, the live-action FMV game Yume no Ukiyo ni Saitemina is pure Edo surrealism filtered through modern tech–utterly bizarre and oozing with thematic authenticity.Avoid anything with anime girls twirling katanas and calling you “oniichan.” Sounds like you want that moss-covered shrine energy, and I respect it.
